SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
Would you volunteer to be “severed” like the characters in the hit AppleTV series “Severance”? According to a new poll, over a third of real-life employees – and nearly half of the Gen-Zers, are OK with it. In the show, to be ‘severed’ involves undergoing a surgical procedure that splits your consciousness into 2 separate identities: Your “innie” (a version of you that exists only at work), and your “outie” (the version of you outside of work). Each version has no memory of the other. In the survey of 2,000 workers in the UK, a startling 35% said they would willingly “sever” their work memories from their personal lives. Among 18-25-year-olds, that figure rose to a staggering 46%. But for those aged 55 and over, only 1 in 5 would want to be severed. One expert commented that the results are “a stark reminder of the stress and pressure people face today. No one should feel the need to completely forget about their work lives just to cope.” Over a third of survey respondents said they have a “work persona” that is different from their real self outside work – similar to the show’s “innies” and “outies.” The survey was conducted last month, as the second season of the psychological blockbuster wrapped up.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
Logan Lerman (‘Jonah’ on “Hunters”) has been added to the cast for the upcoming 5th season of Hulu’s hit comedy “Only Murders in the Building” in a recurring role. His casting was revealed by Selena Gomez in a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram, where he’s pictured alongside returning stars/executive producers Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short, as well as other new additions Renée Zellweger and Christoph Waltz. Other big names who have recurring roles on Season 5 are Tea Leoni and Keegan-Michael Key. As usual, details about the new characters are being kept under wraps. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2ts9ahsd
“MobLand” has broken a Paramount+ record. The crime drama secured 2.2 million global viewers on its premiere day, said the streamer, the best-ever first day for a series. It now joins “1923” and “Landman” as the 3 biggest launches in the history of Paramount+. Additionally, the series generated 9.7 million total views on social media. It has also been well-received by critics, securing a “Certified Fresh” score of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes. The series premiered on Paramount+ in US, Canada, the UK, and Australia on March 30.
Woody Harrelson almost joined the cast of “The White Lotus” Season 3, but his family vacation plans got in the way. Harrelson, who was in the running to play either Walton Goggins’ ‘Rick’ or Sam Rockwell’s ‘Frank’, was speculated to have turned down a role because of producer David Bernad’s policy that all cast members are paid the same. But in a statement, Harrelson revealed that he “was set to do White Lotus’ and very excited”, but when the production schedule was changed, it “conflicted with a pre-planned family vacation”, forcing him to “make an extremely hard decision.” Harrelson also said that “Things must be meant to be”, because he “couldn’t have done as fantastic a job as Sam, who is killing it.”
DID YA KNOW!?

We’re all familiar with the legendary Windows BSOD (The “Blue Screen of Death”) that appears along with a sad smiley face when your computer is, well, basically pooched. The good news is this: You’ll probably never see it again. The bad news: That’s because they’ve changed its design, not because they fixed the flaws that make it happen in the first place! Microsoft has announced that it is now making the “An error has occurred” screen simpler in appearance—and getting rid of the blue entirely. In the preview version of Windows 11 24H2, the error screen is now completely black. The text on the now “Black Screen of Death” reads: “Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart”. No upside-down smiley, no QR code (as if THAT ever helped…). The specific reason for the crash (and the error code) is displayed at the bottom in smaller text. No word on why Microsoft felt the change was necessary, but it’s possible the company wants to shake the reputation of the blue error screen, which is closely associated with the bugs that sometimes come with Windows updates. No word on when the new system crash error screen will be rolled out to the public.

A Romanian woman unknowingly used a 3.5kg (7.7lb) chunk of amber, worth over $1 million, as a doorstop for decades. The stone, which she found in a stream, turned out to be one of the largest intact pieces of amber ever found. Romanian authorities handed the nugget over to the Museum of History in Poland, which has a section dedicated to the study of semi-precious stones. Experts confirmed the authenticity of the amber stone and estimated that it could be 38-70 million years old, and is worth about $1.1 million. Amber, a fossilized tree resin, is prized for its warm hues.
