SURVEYS,

If you’ve ever heard someone say that you couldn’t pay them to go to the gym, they probably weren’t kidding. Researchers at Case Western University in Ohio recruited 836 new gym members for a study on how financial incentives could spur one to exercise more often. Participants were asked to visit their gym 9 times over the course of 6 weeks to receive a small reward. The rewards? They included a $30 Amazon gift card, a useful appliance (like a blender), and a $60 Amazon card. Researchers found that the rewards only increased one’s likelihood to visit the gym by 0.14 visits per week. In fact, during the study, only a third of participants actually visited the gym even once a week.

In the new Peacock special “Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy”, the former U.S. attorney whose office opened the case speaks about the 5 people who have been charged in connection with Perry’s death. E. Martin Estrada, the former attorney for the Central District of California, claims: “These defendants should have known better. They were taking advantage of an individual, and letting their greed drive them to endanger Mr. Perry’s life.” Estrada notes that “the defendants have all been charged” and “three of them have pled guilty and will be co-operating.” Matthew Perry: A Hollywood Tragedy premiered on Peacock.
Fox is turning back time with a new international pilot titled “Young Again”. The show comes from “The Masked Singer” creator Wonwoo Park and uses tech to de-age senior contestants — who then embark on dates as younger versions of themselves. Fox is currently marketing the idea, and looking for partners. The pilot was filmed with U.S. contestants in Australia, and the show could end up being being made in an international market first.
Meghan Markle has an “open invitation” to appear in the new “Suits” spinoff show, “Suits LA.” Show creator Aaron Korsh gushed about the possibility that the Duchess of Sussex could make a cameo while speaking at the new show’s premiere. He said: “We have thought about whether it be Meghan or any of the other cast members coming on and playing themselves as an actor…my brain blows up at the thought of that.” Korsh admitted that for the royal to make an appearance, it would require “an explosion of the fourth wall”, but said he’d find a way to make it happen. Quote: “If Meghan wants to come back under any circumstances, Meghan can come back.” Like the original series, “Suits LA” is a legal drama — but with a different cast.
DID YA KNOW!?
Did you know professional cheesemakers are studying if music can change the taste of cheese? Sweet dreams are made of cheese! Swiss cheesemaker, Beat Wampfler, plays songs from bands like Led Zeppelin and A Tribe Called Quest during his cheese-producing process and, with the help of students from the University of the Arts in Bern, he's studying to see if and how music can change the flavor of his Emmental cheese.

OF THE DAY
Sports betting has grown a $121 billion industry in the US alone ($2.4 billion in Canada), transforming from a niche activity in Vegas to a legitimate and lucrative form of alt-entertainment since the Supreme Court’s 2018 decision to open the floodgates for legalized sports betting, most often done online. But a new study by researchers at the University of California San Diego found that the industry’s rapid expansion has also resulted in a 23% increase in online searches for gambling addiction. And the researchers note that these trends are projected to continue growing. What makes sports betting particularly attractive for some is the perception it is a skill-based activity, rather than pure gambling. Many bettors view themselves as ‘sports experts’ who are making informed decisions — rather than simply gamblers taking risks.
A matchmaking service is “guaranteeing” that its customers will find true love – for a hefty price. LA-based “Three Day Rule”, with 14 locations in the US, has just introduced its Million Dollar Matchmaking program. That’s right: For a $1 million fee, very well-heeled singles can take part in the company’s intense 12-month program that basically manages every aspect of clients’ dating lives. Each coachable client has a recruiter who flies around the country visiting social clubs, bars, fitness clubs, and even scouting out airports in search of possible soulmates. And they’ll even throw in a 3-carat engagement ring if true love happens within 6 months. No word on what happens if you’re still single after a year.

WEIRD NEWS
A Cumbria, England man and his accomplice was arrested after apparently leaving a trail of evidence across a Carlile neighborhood. Brian Helms was allegedly seen on CCTV breaking into a van and stealing a number of tools. The crime spree continued down the street where they broke into a Ford Focus and grabbed a silver ring. A few miles down the road, a wooden wishing well was taken from a doorstep, then dumped on a nearby street. From there, it is alleged the 2 attempted to use a garden chair to climb up and break into a home – but failed to gain access. If the video evidence wasn’t enough to get them busted, this was: Somewhere along the way, Helms stepped in dog poo and left a footprint. And when cops finally caught up with him, he was still wearing the same shoes.
