SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

With the arrival of spring comes that annual feeling of pressure to “keep up with the Jonses’”, says a new survey. The Weed Man poll of 2,000 homeowners in the US found that 76% feel that they need to be competitive with their neighbors when it comes to the outer appearance of their home. Not only that, 25% said they feel they are openly competitive about having the “best house on the block.” One in 9 said they have directly copied a neighbor in their style choice or presentation. And 15% believe a neighbor has copied theirs.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Tom Cruise is set to receive the British Film Institute‘s highest honor, the BFI Fellowship. The “Top Gun” star, who is currently in the UK shooting an as-yet-untitled film, is being recognized for both his “achievements as an extraordinary, versatile actor,” and his “huge contribution to the UK film industry.” Cruise has spent a large portion of the last few decades living and working in the UK, where he has shot numerous “Mission: Impossible” films on location. He famously broke his ankle while filming “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” in London, while much of the final installment, “The Final Reckoning,” rumored to be premiering at the Cannes Film Festival in May, was also shot in the UK.

“The Big Bang Theory” spinoff on Max is untitled no more — and it’s good news and bad news for Kevin Sussman’s ‘Stuart Bloom’ character. The series, still in development, will be titled “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe”, Deadline reports. That puts Stuart at the center of things, but also hints that the beloved sidekick, who could never quite catch a break on Big Bang, may not have better luck in his own show. Sussman is joined by fellow Big Bang alums Lauren Lapkus, who plays Kevin’s girlfriend ‘Denise’, plus Brian Posehn and John Ross Bowie.

“Saturday Night Live” is coming back with a series of veteran hosts and musical guests as well as a notable newcomer. The show will return on March 29 with “Anora” and “Better Things” star Mikey Madison as host, her “SNL” debut. She’ll be accompanied by musical guest Morgan Wallen. On April 5, the show will be hosted by Jack Black, with musical guests Elton John and Brandi Carlile. Jon Hamm will host on April 12, while Lizzo joins in as musical guest.

DID YA KNOW!?

Did you know there's a Starbucks cup in every shot in Fight Club? The urban legend may be false that there’s a Starbucks on every corner in every city but that’s not the case in the 1999 film, Fight Club. Starring Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, and Helena Bonham Carter, the infamous white coffee cup made it to every scene in the movie. Rumor has it this stunt was inspired by a line in the film, when Norton's character explains, "When deep space exploration ramps up, it'll be the corporations that name everything, the IBM Stellar Sphere, the Microsoft Galaxy, Planet Starbucks."

SCOOP OF THE DAY

The Dodgers and Cubs played the first two games of the 2025 MLB season last week in Japan.

If you’ve been holding off on replacing your phone in hopes of being one of the first to get their hands on the rumored new foldable Apple iPhone, you might want to start preparing yourself for sticker-shock. According to industry rumors, the first-ever foldable iPhone will debut within the next year — and it’ll cost well over US $2,000. While nothing is carved in stone just yet, analysts are predicting that prices will start at $2,299 — making it the most expensive phone model to date. Another analyst predicted the new iPhone could cost even more – around $2,500. At this point, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is Apple’s largest and most expensive phone — starting at $1,199. The foldable iPhone is expected to be very thin, measuring around 4.5mm when open, and around 9.5mm when folded. It is said to have one front camera, 2 rear cameras, and a Touch ID power button instead of Face ID.
