SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

If Fridays make you want to dance, you’re not alone. In fact, according to science, your body is hardwired to dance – even if you really don’t like music. Of course, the connection between music and movement runs deep in human culture. And that natural urge to move with rhythm, whether it’s tapping your foot under a desk or shakin’ it on a dance floor, is what scientists call “groove.” According to a new study from Concordia University in Montreal, even those who don’t particularly enjoy music (a condition called “musical anhedonia”), still feel this instinctive urge to dance – or groove — when they hear it. For those people, their enjoyment of rhythmic music appears to come entirely from an urge to move, while others derive pleasure from both movement and the actual music.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Lester Holt, the NBC News anchor known for his ability to lead hours of breaking news coverage without pause, is finally ready for a breather. The news veteran plans to step away in early summer from his anchor duties on “NBC Nightly News,” which he has held since 2015. After that, he plans to devote himself full time to NBC News’ “Dateline,” which he has anchored since 2011. Holt’s exit is the latest in a parade of departures of senior TV-news personnel in recent months as the industry grapples with the competition of streaming and a harsh climate for media outlets in the early days of the second Trump administration.

Jon Bernthal will return as ‘The Punisher’ in “Daredevil: Born Again,” and you won’t have to wait too long to see him again after that. Following his return in the Disney+ show, the actor will star in his own special presentation. Marvel Television has a Punisher special in the works, with Bernthal not only starring, but also co-writing. The special presentation will air in 2026, alongside Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. The Punisher’s outing will mark Marvel’s third “special presentation,” following the “Guardians of the Galaxy” holiday special and “Werewolf by Night” in 2022.

The 2025 American Music Awards will air live from Las Vegas on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on May 26, the network and Dick Clark Productions have announced. The AMAs, which last aired on ABC in 2022, will honor the most popular songs and artists of the year while paying tribute to the country’s troops. Created by legendary producer and host Dick Clark and first awarded in 1974, the AMAs are the world’s largest fan-voted awards show. More details on the 2025 ceremony will be announced later.

DID YA KNOW!?

Did you know wombat feces is cube-shaped? Known for being adorably cute, the wombat is known for producing around 80 to 100 pieces of excrement each night and no one knew why it was cube-shaped. Then, in 2018, researchers found that the Australian animal’s intestines are made up of stretchy and some stiff sections, that create the cubing during the digestive process.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

Six SeaWorld employees were honored by the Red Cross for saving a co-worker’s life.

It’s the item that you thought would never some back into style, but according to reports, younger consumers are on the hunt for…vintage fur. That’s right – after years in which animal fur has been pushed out of fashion, many style-savvy Gen Zers are flocking to secondhand stores – and posting their furry finds online. The rise in popularity of real fur is prompting some industry experts to predict it’s return as a fashion staple after decades of anti-fur activism. In fact, Daniel Wachtenheim, the vice president of Wachtenheim Furs, predicts that it’ll start showing up on fashion runways again “In a year or two”. A-listers spotted recently in fur (faux or not) include the Jenner sisters, Hailey Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, and Anya Taylor-Joy. A PETA spokesperson said that even though this renewed interest is based on vintage – or used – fur, “They should be just as disgusted at any fur ripped off the back of an animal.”

WEIRD NEWS

A man whose stolen credit card was used to buy a winning lottery ticket says he wants to split the jackpot with the thieves. The crooks broke into Jean-David Estele’s car in Toulouse, France, and used his credit card to buy a lottery ticket that turned out to be a winner worth 500,000 euros (US$525,000). French police haven’t yet tracked down the perpetrators, despite finding fingerprints as part of their investigation, and say they appear to be homeless. Estele’s lawyer says he is willing to split the cash with the 2 criminals, calling the incident “a miracle for both the thieves and my client.”

THE LIST

WORST PAIN EVER:

A recent Reddit thread discussed the most “underestimated” kinds of pain that users have experienced…and it almost hurts to read them. Here are some of the…uh…worst:

☞ “Gallbladder attacks are the worst pain I’ve ever felt. One of my friends had 2 kids before she started having gallbladder issues. She said the gallbladder pain was far worse than…Either of her child labors.”

☞ “Chronic pain. People will treat chronic pain sufferers like whiney children, but when they’ve had the same headache for three days, they’re incapacitated.”

☞ “Gout and passing kidney stones. The latter is sometimes described as ‘the closest a man can get to the pain of childbirth.’…the good thing about kidney stones, at least for me, was…Just one look at me, and the nurse was like, ‘Can we get some morphine over here?'”

☞ “Slipped disc. When people say, “Oh yeah, I’ve had a bad back, nope. Once you do a disc, you are (screwed) for the rest of your life…look after your backs, people.”

☞ “Healing from a skin graft — having to ‘debride’ the area in question every day — that’s some of the worst pain I’ve ever felt.”

☞ “A tonsillectomy as an adult. I’ve experienced ruptured ovarian cysts and dealt with endometriosis…I have never experienced pain quite like that of the scabs slowly coming away from the surgical site of my tonsils.”
