Are you part of the in-crowd? According to a new survey from youth culture website “Pubity”, a whopping 70% of viewers of its Broadcast Channel watch TV with subtitles turned on. It would seem that whether that’s to catch every word of dialogue, or a substitute for having the sound turn up, closed-captioning is must-have for many. Many commenters agreed, with some saying that they can’t properly hear without the subtitles on. Another pointed out: “That’s how I learned English.” On the other hand, some cannot STAND words endlessly flashing across their screen. One non-fan wrote: “I hate subtitles with a burning passion.” Another looks at captions this way: “If I wanted to read, I’d read a book, not watch TV.”

John Ross Bowie is set to reprise his role of physicist and string theorist ‘Barry Kripke’ in a spinoff of “The Big Bang Theory,” which is currently in development at Max. The Wrap reports a source as saying that because the project has not yet received an official greenlight, Bowie has signed a holding deal with Warner Bros. Television. Other “Big Bang Theory” alums poised to return include Kevin Sussman, who played ‘Stuart Bloom; Brian Posehn, who played ‘Bert Kibbler’; and Lauren Lapkus, who played ‘Denise’.

Peter Dinklage has boarded the cast of Showtime’s “Dexter: Resurrection.” Dinklage, who is best known for his roles in “Game of Thrones” and “Avengers: Infinity War,” will join the “Dexter” follow-up as a series regular, joining Michael C. Hall, Uma Thurman, David Zayas, James Remar and Jack Alcott. While Hall reprises his ‘Dexter’ character whom he played for 8 seasons on the original series as well as in “Dexter: New Blood,” Dinklage will join the new show as ‘Leon Prater’, a billionaire venture capitalist who, “behind his polished exterior, lies dark intrigue.”

John Lithgow is in final talks to play ‘Albus Dumbledore’ in HBO’s upcoming adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” books. Sources have confirmed Lithgow’s contention for the role, though HBO would said: “We will only confirm details as we finalize deals.” In the Harry Potter books and film adaptations, Dumbledore is the caring but mysterious headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, who mentors Harry in his fight against ‘Voldemort’. Lithgow is known for starring in sitcom “3rd Rock Rrom the Sun”, with other roles ranging from the voice of ‘Lord Farquaad’ in “Shrek” to playing ‘Winston Churchill’ in “The Crown”.

According to a new study, middle-children rule. I’m paraphrasing, sure, but a pair of Canadian university researchers found that the so-called “longest-suffering” siblings generally grow up to be “better” than their brothers and sisters. In what ways? Michael Ashton of Brock University and Kibeom Lee of the University of Calgary concluded that middle children wind up “more honest, humble and agreeable than their siblings. They said this means that middle-kids tend to be better-equipped to “forgive the wrongs that they suffered, are lenient in judging others, are willing to compromise and cooperate with others, and can easily control their temper.” They also are likely to “avoid manipulating others for personal gain” and be “uninterested in lavish wealth and luxuries, and feel no special entitlement to elevated social status.” The youngest child in a family came second in the evaluation, while the oldest fared worst. Only children also fared poorly. Famous middle children include Martin Luther King, Jr., Madonna, Warren Buffett and Abraham Lincoln.

WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com

A Japanese company is trying to attract new talent by offering some very attractive benefits – like free booze, and hangover leaves. The tech firm Trust Ring Co., Ltd. in Osaka, frustrated by its inability to attract top-tier job candidates due to budget constraints, came up with the idea of offering its staff free alcoholic drinks during work hours. While drinking on the job is frowned upon at most workplaces, here, the boss himself brings the booze and happily toasts with his employees. And if some workers have one or 2 too many, they can use their “hangover leave” to come in late the next day, no questions asked. The company’s CEO said that trying to compete with large corporations in terms of salary was a losing battle, so he had to offer people something they valued more than money.

THE LIST: Brought to you by JaseCaseMedical.com

LIFE HACKS TO GET YOU THROUGH WINTER:

✓ If your car ends up getting stuck in snow, cat litter can provide enough friction to help you get moving again. Keep a box in your trunk to save yourself a lot of hassle.

✓ Have lip balm on hand to ease cracked knuckles. The cold weather will make your skin dry and sore, and sometimes not even hand cream is up to the task.

✓ Use a disposable razor to gently shave along the surface of your sweaters to get rid of balled-up bits.

✓ Make your own throat-soothing remedy by mixing some powdered ginger with honey and a squeeze of lemon in a mug of hot water.

✓ Don’t skip the hat because you’re worried about bad hair when you reach work. Take some dry shampoo with you to battle ‘hat hair’ when you arrive.

✓ Make hot chocolate in your slow cooker. Because who doesn’t want a massive vat of hot chocolate on the go when it’s chilly outside? Slow-cooking gives it a deeper, toasty flavor.

✓ Wash your face with an oil-based cleanser. Fend off the discomfort of dry skin using hydrating skincare products … or make your own using a mixture of olive oil and sugar.

✓ Mix 2 parts vinegar with 1-part water, then spray onto your car’s windshield to prevent it icing over. You’ll save yourself scraping time the next day.

✓ Invest in an electric blanket. Turn it on while you get ready for bed, then prepare for peak snuggling.

✓ Knit yourself some mittens. Gloves might be easier for texting, but mittens are proven to keep your hands warmer. They’re also much easier to make.
