Did you know sharks love the taste of the Internet? If shark attacks give you the heebie-jeebies, you and the people over at Google aren’t alone. In 1987, it was reported by The New York Times that sharks “have shown an inexplicable taste for the new fiber-optic cables that are being strung along the ocean floor linking the United States, Europe, and Japan."

Five years after she was infamously snubbed for “Hustlers,” could Jennifer Lopez be heading toward her first Oscar nomination? J-Lo teared up at Sundance Film Festival as her new movie musical “Kiss of the Spider Woman” received a standing ovation. Lopez explained to the crowd that she has always wanted to star in a musical film, and said: “When you talk about the importance of musicals, the reason that I even wanted to be in this business was because my mom would sit me in front of the TV” to watch “West Side Story” which only came on once a year, at Thanksgiving. She got emotional as she continued, saying: “I was just mesmerized, and I was like, ‘That’s what I want to do.'” Lopez plays film star ‘Ingrid Luna’ in Kiss of the Spider Woman, an adaptation of the stage musical about prisoners in Argentina.

Alec and Hilaria Baldwin are offering the first look at their new reality series, which will premiere on TLC Feb. 23. In a trailer for “The Baldwins”, we get a glimpse at what a day in the life of the family of 9 looks like. At the beginning of the clip, Hilaria says: “Seven children, six animals, and two parents…wild family.” It also references the 2021 shooting on the set of the film “Rust”, with Alec seen telling his wife, “I don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t have you.” All their children appear in the teaser. It’s unclear if Alec’s oldest daughter, Ireland, who is 29, whom he shares with ex-wife Kim Basinger, will also appear in the series. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/as5rbmj8

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag are suing the city of Los Angeles in the wake of the devastating wildfires. “The Hills” stars, who lost their home in the Palisades fire, claim the fire was “an inescapable and unavoidable consequence” of how the city and the Department of Water and Power allegedly handled the water supply in the area. Their lawsuit says: “With the Santa Ynez Reservoir effectively out of commission, hydrants in Pacific Palisades failed after three tanks each holding one million gallons of water went dry within a span of 12 hours.” The couple is seeking an undisclosed amount.

If you’d like to remember your ex in a special way on February 14, a sports betting company has the perfect plan. BetUS is hosting a contest where jilted and betrayed lovers can name a New York City street rat after their former flame. It has already received more than 500 stories about toxic ex-lovers, and the plan is to pick the 5 worst, which will be added to a “Rat Roster”. That’s the starting lineup of an imaginary basketball team made up of cartoon rats. So far, here are some of the worst stories submitted by people who want to see their former flame ingloriously immortalized…

A 32-year-old had her man over for dinner one night, and he went to use the bathroom. “Twenty minutes later I went to check on him to discover he’d left. All that was in the bathroom was a Post-it note saying sorry.”

A 28-year-old showed up to the bar she and her boyfriend had chosen for their date, only to find him there with another woman he’d been dating at the same time. His defence? “Oh, I thought we were meeting at 8pm.”

An air steward was dating a man for 6 months and would share stories about their relationship with her coworkers. The other stewardesses would also dish on the men they were dating – but after a while, their stories started sounding eerily familiar. She said: “I asked to see a picture of their guy — it was MY boyfriend dating all 3 of us.” LINK: https://www.betus.com.pa/nba/rat-roster/

WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com

A man on what he called a “Carnivore diet” arrived at a Tampa hospital with an odd ooze emanating from yellowish nodes on the palms of his hands, elbows, and the soles of his feet. He told doctors that beginning 8 months earlier, his daily intake consisted of entire sticks of butter, 6-9 pounds of cheese — and hamburger patties. The patient insisted that since going full fat and all animal, he lost weight and saw improvements in his energy levels and cognitive functioning. The problem, though, was the painless but decidedly icky ooze that had been affecting him for a month. Butter man’s cholesterol level was found to exceed 1,000 mg/dL. For comparison, a healthy cholesterol level is under 200. Cardiologists diagnosed him with xanthelasma, a condition caused by high cholesterol levels, where excess lipids ooze from blood vessels and form localized deposits. Yes, he was seeping cholesterol. Unsurprisingly, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not endorse the carnivore diet.
