THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!
Dear John,
Please talk me off the crazy, paranoid girlfriend ledge. I’ve been dating my boyfriend for three years. We graduated from college and are both starting careers. We’ve talked about getting engaged in the next year or two, but I saw an article online about “micro-cheating.” One example was keeping your phone face down when you’re around your partner. He does that! Another sign is being constantly on your phone around your partner. He does that, too. Then there’s this: He regularly clicks LIKE on photos of supermodels on social media. I’ve seen him do this, too, and that’s strike three. Now I think I should maybe pump the brakes on this relationship until he can pull his act together because the article says micro-cheating usually leads to the real thing. Or am I making a big deal out of a pile of little harmless stuff?
Signed,
Am I Crazy?

As schools continue to try to figure out how best to handle the issue of school smartphone use, a new study has found that students spend an average of 92 minutes on their smartphones during a typical school day – and a quarter of them exceed 2 hours. Seattle Children’s Research Institute scientists used advanced “passive sensing technology” to gain accurate information about of how and when adolescents use their phones during the school day. They found that school-day phone use accounts for approximately 27% of students’ total daily phone usage, which averages 5.59 hours. Instagram was the most-used social media platform, with users spending an average of 25 minutes on IG during school hours. Messaging and chat applications averaged 19.5 minutes of use during school hours, while video streaming services were used for 17 minutes.

Robert Downey Jr., Emma Stone, Cillian Murphy and Da’Vine Joy Randolph have been named in the first group of presenters for the 2025 Oscars. All 4 went home with an Academy Award at last year’s ceremony. Downey Jr. won the best supporting actor Oscar for his role as ‘Lewis Strauss’ in “Oppenheimer”. His co-star Murphy, who played ‘Robert Oppenheimer’, won best actor. Randolph won best supporting actress for her performance in “The Holdovers”, while Stone took home the trophy for her role in “Poor Things”. The Academy Awards are set for March 2.

Research shows that couples who use marijuana are less likely to engage in domestic violence.
A new survey says that for 1 in 3 people, some of life’s best moments have been ruined by “bathroom anxiety”. Bathroom anxiety – or what many are now calling “pee-xiety” – is defined as anxiety that strikes when people feel trapped in situations that prevent them having access to a bathroom. The condition affects 51% of adults, making it a widespread but rarely discussed aspect of modern life. A Talker Research poll of 2,000 Americans found that a whopping 92% have deliberately postponed bathroom visits to avoid missing significant moments. And nearly a quarter said they do so regularly, to stay present during what they perceive as exciting or important events. And, sorry for the mental picture, but 35% have missed these big moments due to unavoidable bathroom urgency. Examples? Things missed in favor of staring at a stall wall include a child’s first step, epic concert finales and once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunities. One-third of respondents reported missing major sporting moments while attending to nature’s call, including…
• A Cleveland Browns fan missed Bernie Kosar’s record-breaking completion streak while waiting in a bathroom line.
• One missed Malcolm Butler’s game-changing interception during Super Bowl XLIX.
• A bathroom break superseded LeBron James’s legendary block during the 2016 NBA Finals.
• Another person reported missing Joe Carter’s historic home run that secured the 1992 World Series for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Like it or not, get ready for the new pizza -flavored Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal. Uh-huh. General Mills has partnered with Totino’s on the new food collab, which they say combines “the savory flavor from Totino’s Pizza Rolls with the “Cinnadust” and cereal shape of Cinnamon Toast Crunch for a ‘match made in mashup heaven’. And the breakfast and dinner combo will even be served in a package resembling a pizza delivery box. Only 1,000 boxes are available on the Cinnamon Toast Crunch website. RESTAURANT HACKS: (Day 2 of 2)
Recently, the BuzzFeed community was asked to share their hacks for saving money when they’re out to eat. Here are some of the best – and most creative – things that respondents said they do to save a buck or two…
→ “I’m a big fan of ordering (from a place that gives) large portions that I know will leave me with leftovers. Spending $18 on a meal feels better when I can get 3 meals out of it.”
→ “My husband and I often get sampler platters of things and split them. At a well-known ‘Italian’ place they have one entree that is essentially 3 smaller entrees.”
→ “I hardly ever drink water with meals at home, but at restaurants, it’s all I’ll get. I cannot…justify paying $3.75 for a glass of Pepsi when I could go buy a 2 liter of it for $1.”
→ “DO NOT GET ALCOHOL. That stuff is so (darn) expensive.
→ “When it comes to sides, if you want a salad, and it’s offered as a side, get that! If you still want potatoes or something, get that as an extra side, it’s usually much cheaper than a side salad.”
→ “Try something new and be willing to spend money on something you might not like instead of buying a plain pizza/pasta you could make at home for a fraction of the price.”
→ “Split your meal with your dinner companion! Oftentimes, they will bring you 2 separate plates…If you’re still hungry…you can order more. You can even split a beer.”
→
“Eat
out during lunch rather than dinner. Oftentimes, restaurants will
charge a premium for dinner.
