THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!

Dear John,

I've been dating my girlfriend for a few years. We met in college. I've graduated and she dropped out. We've been living together for the last six months. I think she's ready to get married, but I'm ready to break up. I decided to wait until after Valentine's Day, but I've wanted to do this for a while. I didn't want to make Christmas uncomfortable. We had plans with friends on New Year's Eve. I was kind of forced to make plans for Valentine's Day because our friends were already going to an event and they invited us. So I'm still waiting to break up, but I think she's getting a whole different idea. I heard he tell her mother that I've been acting funny and she thinks I'm about to propose. I feel even worse about breaking up now, but I also need to do what is best for me, not just what is best for her and her feelings. I'm so far in debt with my schooling. I've got a good job and I'm able to make it on my own, but she has very expensive taste, so we are over extended in every possible way. I can't afford her. I want her to be happy, but I'm never going to be a rich guy. I think she will eventually find someone who can give her the things she needs, without going broke, but I'm not that guy. How do I make my next move? Do I wait until after Valentine's Day? Do I tell her before and get it over with?

Signed,

Ready To Move On

New research has revealed a simple way to improve your health and well-being while on vacation – and one bad habit to avoid. Psychologists from University of Georgia analyzed data from 32 countries, and not only found that vacations are more beneficial to the well-being of workers than they thought, they also determined that travelers who participate in physical activities experience higher levels of well-being and restoration. And all it takes is some kind of exercise that boosts the heart rate. With this in mind, a fitness trainer recommends packing resistance bands and doing 10-minute mini-workouts while you’re away. On the other hand, what is it that you SHOULDN’T be doing? Aside from spending your entire week in the buffet line or at the bar, the researchers say you should steer clear of work emails and calls while on vacation. They point out that vacations are one of the few opportunities we get to fully disconnect from work, and those who are able to do that showed the most improvement in their well-being, according to the analysis.

OK, guys: Valentine’s Day is this Friday! I just wanted to put that out there for you. But you already knew that – because according to a new poll, men are actually bigger romance fans than women. The survey of 2,000 American romance readers revealed that 63% of men consider themselves die-hard romance enthusiasts — compared to 60% of women. Men spend more time reading romance, too. The Talker Research study found that men spend 364 hours immersed in the genre per year, while women spend about 312. And just so you know, 17% percent of married romance readers typically picture their spouse when imagining the love interest in a novel. 21% of respondents admitted to having envisioned their celeb crush — and 7% said they usually imagine their ex.
