These days, who DOESN’T use their smartphone as an alarm clock? Here’s the thing, though: Experts are warning that you might be better off using a good old-fashioned alarm clock instead. Dr. Shalini Paruthi, sleep medicine attending physician at John J. Cochran Veterans Hospital in St. Louis and adjunct professor at St. Louis University School of Medicine (who, by the way, has an incredibly large business card…) says that if you keep your phone in another room, you’ll “decrease the opportunity for distraction from sleep, and also decrease opportunity for sleep procrastination.” What he means is that by having a phone at your bedside, it means it always sitting there, giving you easy access to scroll at night — and an easy snooze button in the morning. And remember: those late-night doomscrolling sessions aren’t just bad for your mental health, the exposure to bright light is not a good way to help the brain transition into a “fall-asleep” state.

“The Bachelorette” is taking a break this year. ABC’s long-running reality dating show will skip its usual production cycle, which means Season 22 won’t premiere in July, as is usually the case. Don’t worry though, The Bachelorette hasn’t been canceled, although its return date hasn’t been set. Production on the show also skipped 2006 and 2007 entirely. And other shows in the “Bachelor” universe have also taken breaks, including, most recently, “Bachelor in Paradise,” which skipped 2024 entirely.
Rob Lowe has come off his latest role with an immense respect for firefighters and first responders – and he’d do it again. After “9-1-1: Lone Star” ended its 5-season run last week, the 6-time Golden Globe nominee said he wouldn’t rule out reprising the character of ‘Captain Owen Strand’ in an upcoming spin-off, or on “9-1-1: Los Angeles”, currently in its 8th season. Lowe said to People: “I never say never to anything, and it’s a character that means a lot to me.” Lowe stressed his respect and admiration for first responders, saying “It’s an honor whenever I can bring their stories to the screen, so you never know.”
Denzel Washington has revealed that he bit his tongue “almost half-off” a few months ago. In a podcast interview with the New York Times, Washington said: “It’s affecting my speech. It forces me to slow down.” While the “Gladiator II” star didn’t share more about the injury, he admitted it has affected his upcoming role in the Broadway revival of “Othello.” Quote: “It’s hard because my tongue is swollen. It has affected everything.” Washington, who was baptized and became a licensed minister in December — tied the incident to his faith, saying it showed him why he should “pray every day.”

A report suggests that those who lie have worse physical health than those who don’t.
NEW VOCAB ADDITIONS:
Sometimes, it’s hard to keep up. We’re here for you…
❑ “Boomerask”: A Wall Street Journal story calls this a cousin of the “humblebrag”. It’s play on “Boomeranging” a question so the asker can respond with a boast. Think of that co-worker who asks “How was your weekend” with the intention of launching into a response about their more-exciting weekend adventures.
❑ FOBO: Forget “FOMO” (Fear of Missing Out”). The latest anxiety-inducing trend is “Fear of a Better Option”. Patrick McGinnis, an author and venture capitalist who coined the term, describes it as “the anxiety that something better will come along, which makes it undesirable to commit to existing choices when making a decision”, even then there perfectly acceptable options in front of us. He says that struggle to choose just one is “an affliction” of abundance.

Move over almond and soy milk – and whatever other kind of milk the trendy people are drinking these days. Because the next big daily alternative just might be – camel milk! New research from Edith Cowan University in Australia says camel milk could offer some impressive health benefits, especially for our immune systems. In their in-depth head-to-head comparison of cow vs. camel milk, the researchers found that camel milk contains distinctive proteins that could make it especially valuable for immune system support and gut health. The cream portion of camel milk was found to contain bioactive peptides that can help fight harmful bacteria and potentially protect against certain diseases. Additionally, camel milk contains lower lactose levels than cow’s milk, potentially making it easier to digest for some people. Camel’s milk currently accounts for just 0.4% of global milk production.
