Today we visit with Tim Walsh. He produced projects including “Hightown” (Starz), “Shooter” (USA Network), “Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer” (Netflix), and, most notably, “Chicago P.D.” (NBC).
His new project “On Call” is a boundary-pushing, character-driven half-hour drama, that utilizes bodycam, dash-camera, and cellphone footage to create a cinema verité effect, bringing viewers into the heart of modern-day Long Beach, California. It stars Troian Bellisario and Brandon Larracuente, and follows Troian’s character, Traci Harmon, as she balances her role as a community protector, also tasked with mentoring a new trainee – all while grappling with the devastating impact of a former trainee’s murder. https://amzn.to/4heXoto

It’s a generational thing: Older adults are going to take younger ones to task because they ‘do things differently’. And it makes sense that so much of Gen Z’s lives are automated that they have some difficulty doing DIY things that older adults might feel are second nature. Still, the results of the survey might shock you: Researchers in the UK found that nearly 25% of Gen Z has no idea how to change a lightbulb in a ceiling lamp — with many claiming that climbing a ladder is “too dangerous.” One in 5 also expressed concern that the bulb might be “too hot.” In addition, the majority of team-Z’ers said they aren’t confident in their abilities to clean a car. And less than half said they don’t know how to add air to a tire. The report noted that instead of risking putting themselves in harm’s way to complete common tasks, Gen Zs tend to “GOTDIT” — Get Others To Do It.

Stats show that those in the US are exposed to up to 4,000 ads daily. What’s more, new research shows that even our dreams are no longer safe from commercial messaging. A new study by The Media Image found that 54% of young adults have their dreams influenced by ads, with 38% saying they experience this regularly — and some companies might be doing it intentionally. In 2021, it was reported that 77% of companies surveyed expressed intentions to experiment with “dream ads” by this year.

Spencer Pratt is receiving some good fortune after the recent tragedy of losing the home he shared with wife Heidi Montag in the Los Angeles wildfires. He shared in a new interview that he has made, quote, like, $4,000 on TikTok…but on TikTok LIVE, where people can just give to me direct, I think maybe $20,000.” Pratt called that amount “phenomenal, and life-changing.” “The Hills” alum’s TikTok page reached 2 million followers on Friday. He gained nearly a million new followers last week, after using the platform to document the aftermath of losing his home.
“Moana 2,” which was originally conceived as a TV show for streaming, is officially a billion-dollar box office smash. The animated sequel has made $445 million domestically and $567 million internationally, bringing its grand total to $1.009 billion globally after 8 weekends of release. “Moana 2” is Disney‘s third 2024 release to join the billion-dollar club, following “Inside Out 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine”. No other studio released a single $1 billion movie in 2024, though Universal came close with “Despicable Me 4’s $969 million gross.

If you’ve always had a nagging suspicion that you aren’t your parents’ favorite child, then this is for you. Researchers have come up with a way to determine if you’re the “fav” – or not. A team at Brigham Young University studied data from almost 20,000 people, and concluded that parents do indeed treat their kids differently – and found a few interesting patterns. Among them:
• Both mothers and fathers tend to favor daughters.
• Older sibling are generally given more autonomy, such as later curfews and more freedom to make their own decisions, although this may reflect appropriate developmental adjustments rather than favoritism.
• Children who demonstrate responsibility and organization (completing homework on time, keeping their rooms tidy…) also typically receive more favorable treatment from their parents.
• Agreeable children who show cooperation and consideration in family life often receive more positive parental responses.
The researchers said that favorite children have better mental health, better grades, better ability to regulate their emotions, and healthier relationships. However, they may be overindulged, which does not teach them life skills for later on. Those who aren’t favored sometimes experience more difficulties in adulthood.

Here’s a new – but questionable – way to enjoy chicken noodle soup this cold and flu season: Soup maker Progresso has announced the launch of Soup Drops, a chicken noodle soup-flavored hard candy that resembles a cough drop. Yup, I said it: A chicken noodle soup-flavored COUGH DROP. The company said: “These savory drops are arriving for a limited time this month for National Soup Month, right at the height of cold and flu season.” The drops, described as “soup you can suck on”, taste like broth, savory veggies, soft egg noodles, and a hint of parsley, according to a release.
