As you no doubt know from your experiences at the gym or at work, having the right music can really help you get in the zone. But what is the best type of music to boost focus and productivity? According to a new study published in PLOS One, specially composed “work flow” music actually helps people think faster and feel better while completing challenging mental tasks. Other types of background audio, including “deep focus” tracks from a streaming service, current hits or simulated office noise? Not so much. The researchers, from various American Universities, determined that the special “work flow” music maintained a moderately fast tempo with steady beats that didn’t overwhelm the listener. Only the participants listening to this specially designed music showed significant improvements in both mood and task performance. And perhaps surprisingly to some, pop hits, despite their popularity, showed no significant benefits in either mood or performance.

Did
you know the filling in Kit Kats is made from damaged Kit Kats? The
folks at the Kit Kat factory sure know how to recycle! Whenever a Kit
Kat bar is somehow made imperfect during production like air bubbles
or some other issue, the chocolate bar isn’t thrown out. Instead,
they ground up into a fine paste and turned into a filling that's
then incorporated back into the production process to create new Kit
Kat bars!

The world of “Peaky Blinders” isn’t over yet, according to creator Steven Knight. Ahead of the premiere of the film spinoff, Knight hinted there could be more to his crime drama about English gang violence in the 1900s. During an interview on BBC on Tuesday, Knight said that the upcoming movie “The Immortal Man: A Peaky Blinders Film”, will be “a very fitting way to end this part of the Peaky story.” When pressed on what he meant by “this part,” he clarified: “It’s not over, let’s just put it like that. I’m not allowed to announce it … but I’m just saying that the world of Peaky will continue.”
Incarcerated movie producer and convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein is suing his brother and fellow Weinstein Company co-founder Bob Weinstein for fraud. Harvey filed a suit his against his brother last week in the Supreme Court of the State of New York. The suit adds his brother and several others as third parties in a complaint that was first filed against him by AI International Holdings in 2017, demanding immediate repayment of a $45 million loan that Weinstein procured in 2016. He claims his brother and others “diverted significant portions of the loan funds for unauthorized and personal purposes”.

A drop of water is all it takes to activate a new type of bandage that developers say generates an electrical field to speed healing. North Carolina State University researchers say the $1 bandage could transform treatment for the millions of people who struggle with chronic wounds. In testing with diabetic mice, 75% of wounds treated with the electrical bandage healed completely by day 11, versus 0% with standard bandages. The smart bandage, which uses a combination of magnesium and silver/silver chloride, allows patients to receive advanced wound treatment at home without visiting clinics or using bulky equipment, and its effectiveness has been compared to treatment that costs upwards of $20,000.

An AI-powered “Death Clock” is causing a buzz by claiming to predict when you might die. The free website, called Death Clock, analyzes personal data such as age, body mass index, diet, exercise levels, and smoking habits to predict the date of your demise — as well as how you’ll die. The clock calculates the exact age users will live, to and counts down the days, hours, minutes, and seconds left until the Grim Reaper arrives, which incidentally is the logo of the website. After the user inputs the necessary information, the website generates a tombstone with your predicted death date. At last check, the AI-powered clock had predicted the final day of over 63 million users. But it seems that one must read the fine print, even when dealing with the Grim Reaper, because a disclaimer states it “should be used for fun only” because the “calculator is unlikely to predict your actual date of death”. STUFF YOU SHOULDN’T BUY:
People of the BuzzFeed community recently shared the products they believe people should quit buying, because they’re pretty much a big scam. Here are some of the most interesting comments . . .
✗ “A majority of anti-aging skincare products are a crock… Wear an SPF every day — it’ll do more than a lot of the products you’re using.”
✗ “Memory enhancers. Not a shred of evidence they work.”
✗ “My mother bought ‘weight loss socks’ that cost £40. They were just standard grip socks. She also bought a ‘weight loss ring’ for £60…I showed her the same ring on AliExpress for £1.”
✗ “Deodorant should be unigender and non-scented.”
✗ “(Non-prescription) products that promise to make your hair grow faster and detox your liver. Both are absolute bull…and scientifically impossible.”
✗ “Most vitamin supplements are scams and are not regulated by the FDA. Anything can be in them or nothing.”
✗ “Carpet powder to freshen up your carpet before vacuuming.”
✗ “Newer versions of the iPhone. Almost 5 years ago, I bought my current phone, an iPhone 10. It still works just fine.” (Check your battery health, dude!)
