If you love football, chances are you wish the Monday after the Super Bowl were a holiday. Actually, even if you AREN’T a football fan, you’d probably appreciate the day off too, but I digress. A new survey found that 55% of football fans wish the day following the big game was a national holiday. Other findings from the poll of 3,000 adults…
• 76% prefer other days of the week “in general” to Mondays.
• Two-thirds agreed that Mondays are the most disliked day of the week.
• 34% said that everything feels slower on a Monday, partly because of sadness that the weekend is over, and partly because they “feel drained and easily agitated.”
• One in 10 admitted they start checking out” for the week as early as Monday.

Days after teasing an “iconic” reunion on Instagram, Meg Ryan and Billy Crytal are indeed back together – and in Katz’s Deli, no less — this time for a new Super Bowl ad. In the new spot for Hellmann’s mayonnaise, the 2 return to the deli as their beloved characters from “When Harry Met Sally”. Crystal immediately jokes that he “can’t believe they let us back in this place.” As Ryan bites into her sandwich, she’s unimpressed, and adds a helping of the mayo. And can you guess what happens next? As she takes another bite, she starts moaning in pleasure, prompting Crystal to sigh and say, “Here we go!” Spolier alert: After Crystal remarks: “This one’s real,” it becomes apparent that the classic scene wouldn’t be complete without an onlooker telling their waiter: “I’ll have what she’s having.” That onlooker? Super Bowl LIX is on Fox-TV this Sunday and they've already scored a key Big Game touchdown. Fox has sold at least 10 of the commercials that will appear in its Feb. 9 telecast of the NFL championship between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles for more than $8 million, according sources. That’s a new record price for Super Bowl spots, which have gone for an average of $7.5 million this year. In November, during a quarterly earnings call, Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch declared Super Bowl inventory sold out “at record pricing.” At that time, the price was believed to be north of $7 million — but it has surged even higher since.
George Lopez is retiring from stand-up comedy, but fans have one final special to look forward to. From Prime Video, “George Lopez: Muy Católico (Very Catholic)”, recorded last September at LA’s Dolby Theater, will premiere on February 18. In it, Lopez shares his reflections on aging, Latino family dynamics, and cultural quirks. He also embraces the challenges of getting older and touches on generational clashes and Latino superstitions.

If you plan to host a Super Bowl viewing party for 9 of your football-mad friends (and yourself), it’ll cost you about US$139. Store-bought Super Bowl snacks for 10 will set you back about the same amount as last year, according to a report from Wells Fargo. Their estimate included chips, guacamole, beer and chicken wings for a gang of 10. That total is just 10 cents more than last year’s price.
With Super Bowl Sunday almost here, it probably won’t come as a surprise to you to hear that the majority of foods considered “traditional” game day snacks are high in sodium. What might come as a surprise to you is just HOW high. A new study reveals that foods advertised in NFL commercials contain an average of nearly 40% of the daily recommended sodium intake. University of Nevada, Reno’s School of Medicine researchers recorded 10 NFL games in 2023 and analyzed the number and duration of commercials advertising food products. They found that about 10% of the spot advertised food. The sodium content of those foods ranged from 220-1,872 milligrams, with a median amount of 910mg. Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend consuming less than 2,300mg per day. Fast-food restaurants advertised the products with the most sodium. Senior study author Dr. Paul Hauptman points out that eating too much salt can have many negative effects on your health, including high blood pressure, which is directly related to stroke and heart disease. A lot of those foods are also high in fat and calorie content. Hauptman also said that because a lot of food choices are emotional, the excitement of watching a game, whether your team is winning or losing, could cause you to consume even MORE foods that are bad for you.

So, the richest man on the planet wants to kill the penny. Elon Musk, who has been put in charge of US President Trump’s new Department of Government Efficiency, has revealed that he wants to eliminate the 1 cent coin, which costs 3.7 cents to produce. The idea is that by simply rounding a purchase total up (or down) to the nearest nickel would solve any pricing issues, and save the government $179 million per year. By the way, the nickel might be next. They cost more than 13 cents to produce.
