You know how it goes when you start Googling whatever symptoms you’re experiencing: It takes just a few minutes, and you’re convinced that you’re gonna die! So just a tip here: If it’s your child who’s sick, stay away from Dr. Google. And somewhat related to that dire set of circumstances, a new study found that parents who Google symptoms of a child’s ailment before being seen by a doctor tend to have less faith in their doctor’s diagnosis if their search led them to believe the child was suffering from something else. Researchers from New York’s Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine found that the internet search results played a significant role in the level of trustworthiness the parents had in the physician — and whether or not they’d seek a second opinion. The team reminded parents that simply entering a collection of symptoms in a search engine may not reflect the actual medical situation at hand, and that questioning a doctor’s abilities or asking for a second opinion could end up delaying treatment.

Cynthia Erivo, Keke Palmer, Kendrick Lamar, Kevin Hart and Shannon Sharpe have been nominated for Entertainer of the Year at the 56th NAACP Image Awards. The August Wilson adaptation “The Piano Lesson” led all films with 14 nominations, more than double the total for runner-ups “The Book of Clarence,” “Nickel Boys,” “Exhibiting Forgiveness” and “Bob Marley: One Love,” which received 6. “Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist” was the top television nominee, with 9. The NAACP Image Awards will take place at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Feb. 22. It’ll air live on BET and CBS.
Peacock is developing a reboot of “Grimm”, the cult favorite supernatural drama that ran on NBC from 2011-17. “Drop Dead Diva” creator Josh Berman is writing the new take, which he is executive producing with the original series’ creative team. The exact premise of the Grimm movie is still under wraps. It is believed to have ties to the series for diehard fans, but could also be easily taken up by those not familiar with the original mythology and characters.
SCOOP OF THE DAY: Brought to you by JaseCaseMedical.com
You know those small pieces of Styrofoam that are used to protect the contents of a package from shifting or breaking during transport? Right: They’re sometimes called ‘popcorn’. Well, a Japanese company is now using literal popcorn for the job. Popcorn manufacturer and delicacy wholesaler Azechi Foods’ manager Shihoko Wada, had been struggling to promote popcorn on its online store where people mainly bought delicacies. Then she was inspired by a laptop repair technician at a management seminar. He used cylindrical puffed corn snacks as a cushioning material. That sparked the revelation to Wada that not only could the popcorn be used as an actual snack after use, but it was also a great opportunity to attract attention to the company. And that’s exactly what happened. Before long photos of the bags started going viral on Japanese social media, and the company soon started receiving orders from all sorts of businesses, leading to even more exposure via national TV outlets. Although the bags of popcorn packing material are more expensive than conventional cushioning materials, they can be eaten afterward, which helps eliminate waste, unlike other cushioning or filler materials, most of which end up in the trash.

A gastroenterologist is warning that scrolling through videos on TikTok can cause hemorrhoids. Dr. David L Schwarzbaum warns that one common cause of ‘roids is from “sitting on the toilet for a prolonged time.” And his “10-15” rule could be your savior when it comes to keeping your bum healthy, and avoiding “TikTok Tush”. While sitting on the toilet, blood tends to pool in the lowest point, causing increased pressure on the blood vessels in that sensitive area, leading that that itchy and painful affliction that no one really wants to talk about. The good doctor recommends that no matter how skillful the video app’s algorithm is in keeping you watching, you should “limit bowel movements to 10-15 minutes at most, to reduce the risk of hemorrhoids.” He also counsels his patients “to avoid scrolling on phones or reading for prolonged periods on the toilet”
