Sharing a bathroom can be a recipe for disaster, according to research. 70% of British couples are currently locked in a “bathroom war” with their partner, and nearly 20% have broken up with someone over bathroom habits. For men, bathroom dealbreakers include the hair their significant other leaves in the shower drain. Women say the worst thing is a messy or stinky toilet. And one-third of survey respondents said they feel that their partner hogs the shower for too long. Also showing up on the list of ‘restroom wrongs’ were the classic arguments of leaving the toilet paper roll empty, and which way to hang the roll.

Meghan Markle is back on Instagram. Jan. 1, the Duchess of Sussex kicked off the new year with a new account on the social media platform. It had long been rumored that the handle @meghan belonged to her, and her first post under that account featured her in a video, wearing all white and running on the beach, writing “2025” in the sand before running back off camera. The clip was reportedly shot by her husband Prince Harry at a public beach near their Montecito, California home. Before she married Prince Harry, the “Suits” star had 3 million followers on an Instagram account under her own name, but shut it down in early 2019. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/9e9z7mcw

Shocking no one, the second season of “Squid Game” is a huge hit for Netflix, attracting 68 million views during its premiere week, and breaking several records in the process. The second installment of the South Korean action thriller beat the record previously held by “Wednesday” as the most-watched Netflix show during its first week. So, it’s no surprise then that it ranked as the #1 most-watched show in 92 countries. In just 3 days, Squid Game Season 2 became the 7th most popular non-English language program (Season 1 remains the all-time leader). In addition, the first season has re-entered the top 10 non-English shows list at #3, with 8.1 million views.

A study says that those who are divorced are about a quarter more likely to die early, compared to those who are married.

It seems the days of asking dear old dad for money advice are becoming a thing of the past. According to a new study, TikTok is fast becoming the main tool social media users go to for financial knowledge. The Talker Research survey found that Americans collected an average of 42 pieces of financial knowledge from TikTok in 2024, and, as you might expect, younger generations lead the way. Gen Z respondents said they absorbed an average of 49 pieces of financial advice from what’s being called “FinTok”, compared to 44 for millennials and 32 for baby boomers. 47% said they used to rely on family members or friends for financial advice, today, today, a remarkable 50% believe they receive superior advice from so-called experts on TikTok.

WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com

An adventure company in Laos is offering travelers a coffee break with a waterfall view. The catch is that you get to (or have to, depending on how you feel about heights) enjoy your java while suspended from a zipline — 1,000 feet (305m) off the ground. For US $60 each, brave backpackers can enjoy a genuine Laos coffee, sourced directly from the Bolaven Plateau, and sip it while sitting at a suspended table. Organizers say the experience is “a little shaky”. You’re also invited to ‘relax’ in a hammock (as if relaxing is an option), while drinking in the view below of the twin waterfalls in Dong Hua Sao National Park.

RIDICULOUS MYTHS ABOUT DODGY STUFF IN FOOD AND DRINK:

⇒ Apple seeds contain cyanide: It’s actually true, but in small amounts. So, while it is best to be safe and not consume them, you would need to eat a minimum of 150 seeds – and up to thousands, depending on the type of apple, in order to get cyanide poisoning.

⇒ Vodka has antifreeze as an ingredient: Years ago, Dan Akroyd was shilling his vodka on TV, and bragged that his brand was so good because it contained no propylene glycol, which some manufacturers do use to make it have a smoother mouth feel. The problem is that he went on to claim that propylene glycol is used in antifreeze. But when it comes to disastrous uses of antifreeze, it is ethylene glycol that is toxic to humans.

⇒ Twinkies contain scary ingredients that make them last forever: The story was that a teacher once kept a Twinkie for years without it disintegrating or getting moldy. But the truth is that they aren’t known to be any more heavily processed than any other guilty-pleasure snack foods.

⇒ Licorice can be dangerous: You might have heard that licorice root extract can contain something called glycyrrhizic acid, which can be quite deadly if you take too much. But the vast majority of licorice candy today does not actually contain any licorice root extract. (But rest assured that it still stinks just as bad as it ever did!)

⇒ MSG sensitivity is a thing: Oh, boy…this is going to set someone off. But while the so-called phenomenon of MSG sensitivity has been around for decades, but there is no evidence to support claims of people having adverse effects from eating food with MSG.

⇒ Putting feet in wine is unsanitary: Not as an ingredient, silly! Grape stomping is a practice that goes back to ancient days. It involves people treading barefoot over grapes to break them down for the fermentation process. But most winemakers today use automated systems because they are much more efficient, not because science has proved that grape stomping is unsafe. In fact, the practice, while not often used anymore, is still not banned anywhere of note.
