New research suggests that success may result more from luck than from merit, according to a new study. Scientists at Cornell University found that even among genetically identical mice, early chance events create lasting differences in success – which they say demonstrates that luck can outweigh innate ability in determining life outcomes. The study demonstrates what scientists call the “Matthew effect” — a phenomenon where individuals or institutions that achieve early success tend to achieve ever greater success in the future.

In late 2013, the first carnivorous mammal to be discovered within the Western hemisphere was found by Dr. Kristofer Helgen. It is called the Olinguito and is a member of the Raccoon family.

Heidi Klum is returning to “Project Runway”. The 51-year-old model will return for Season 21 as the series returns this year. Klum originally hosted the show from 2004-17. The German model won an Emmy in 2013 alongside co-host Tim Gunn, and was nominated 9 times during her hosting tenure. Project Runway will air 10 weekly episodes on Disney-owned Freeform network sometime in 2025 before being available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu. The show, which originally launched on Bravo before moving to Lifetime and back to Bravo, has yet to announce an official premiere date or the Season 21 judges.

The “Breaking Bad” house has hit the market for a cool $4 million — because the current owner is fed up with fans of the show gawking at her property. The ranch-style home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, was the TV residence of ‘Walter White’, played by Bryan Cranston, as well as his wife ‘Skylar’, and their son ‘Walt Jr.’ in the hit show, which aired from 2006-18. Current resident Joanne Quintana grew up in the modest home, and was there with her parents when they began filming the iconic series. She told a reporter: “At first the filming was a blessing” that allowed her and her family to witness “the magic of Hollywood”. But soon fans started turning up on her quiet block – to the tune of 300 cars a day, with some even tossing pizzas on the roof, in homage to a classic scene from the show.

SCOOP OF THE DAY: Brought to you by JaseCaseMedical.com

Coca-Cola has brought back a flavor that hasn’t been on store shelves for 18 years. Lime Coke, which features a hint of green citrus, was first released in 2005, and it lasted for about 2 years before being discontinued. So far, Lime Coke is only available in the UK, but North Americans might be interested to know that the new Orange Cream flavor (Think of an orange creamsicle) will be available next month.

We’ve heard all about the names given to different generations, and the great (and not-so-great) characteristics that they bring to the table. There are, of course, the Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, Gen Z, Generation Alpha (born 2013-24) – and new for 2025: “Generation Beta”. Those born between now and 2039 are expected to be tech-savvy (of course) and socially conscious, and may prioritize adaptability, individuality, and sustainability. They’ll only know a post-pandemic world (unless another one comes along…). Someday, Taylor Swift will be the golden oldies their parents listen to in the car. And words like “rizz” and “skibidi” will be passé by the time they’re tempted to use them. They’ll use AI for everyday tasks without even thinking about it. And, according to experts, they’ll probably live to see past the beginning of the 22nd century – and may very well someday consider moving from areas of the world that are becoming uninhabitable. And while this might sound like a lot to digest, those involved in the study of this type of thing say that just like others born toward the beginning and end of a new generation, the first crop of Beta babies likely won’t be much different from younger Gen Alphas.

FUN FACT FOR YOU:
Share this with your friends... they'll think you're really smart!

A study found that the more common bearded men are, the less attractive beards become to women.

Sideburns are named after American Civil War General, General Burnside, who had huge sideburns connected by a mustache.

In 17th century Russia, you could be taxed 100 rubles a year for having a beard.

If you were to put down the razor and stop shaving forever, your beard would grow to approximately 27.5 feet (if you are male).

The name “Chewbacca” is derived from the Russian word “sobaka,” which means “dog”.

WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com

A hard candy lived up to its name when a Canadian woman bit into it – and broke her jaw. Javeria Wasim had seen videos of people biting into small jawbreaker candies, but had never seen anyone manage to bite through a big 3-inch jawbreaker, so she gave it a try. The 19-year-old only managed to dent the outer layer of the candy when she felt a piercing pain in her jaw. Her friend then pointed out that one of her teeth was chipped. After noticing that another tooth was loose, she then realized she could barely open her mouth without screaming in pain. After a trip to hospital by ambulance, and X-ray showed she had fractured her mandible in 2 places trying to bite into the jawbreaker.
