Eating dinner late – like at 7pm – can lead to weight gain, researchers at University of Pennsylvania say. Their 2022 study found that eating dinner later increased the weight of test participants, and also boosted insulin and cholesterol, leading to an increased risk for heart disease and diabetes. The researchers also found that hormonal factors help those who eat their last meal earlier in the day to feel fuller…longer.

Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar kept four Hippos in his estate before his death in 1993. Deemed too much hassle to move by authorities, his Hippos were left there and have since bred and escaped becoming an invasive species of Colombia.

Betty White was NOT such a golden girl, according to Sally Struthers. Two years after White’s death, the “All in the Family” actress opened up about her negative experiences with the late actress, whom she called a “very passive aggressive woman.” Struthers claimed on the “Let’s Talk About That” podcast that White once “totally fat-shamed [her] in front of” other people while working on a pilot for a new game show. According to her, “I reached for a cookie and she said in front of everyone, ‘Oh, I wouldn’t do that if I were you, dear, you don’t need a cookie.’” Struthers, who noted “I know everybody loves her”, said she felt comfortable talking about White “now that she’s gone.”

In just under 3 weeks, “Squid Game” Season 2 has become the 3rd most-watched season of television ever on Netflix. The 7-episode installment put up another 26.3M views from January 6-12, easily making it the most-watched title of the week. With 152.5M views since its December 26 premiere, it sits behind only Squid Game Season 1 and “Wednesday” in terms of all-time viewership. And there’s still plenty of time for it to beat either or both of those, because there are still 70 days in the 91-day premiere window that Netflix uses to measure these accomplishments.

HOW TO LOSE WEIGHT WITHOUT GOING TO THE GYM:

So, how about those New Year’s resolutions? Or should I say…do you remember your New Year’s resolutions? With today being “Ditch New Year’s Resolutions Day”, here’s a friendly reminder that stats show 80% of people who made New Year’s resolutions have tapped out by the second week of January. But on the other hand, if your resolution was to…say…lose weight THIS YEAR, you’ve still got plenty of time to do it. Michael Hamlin is a personal trainer and founder of EverFlex Fitness. He points out that while a healthy diet is essential, you can help things along by incorporating these enjoyable methods of burning more calories without ever having to set foot in a gym . . .

1. Laugh more: Laughing for just 10-15 minutes a day can burn up to 40 calories. When you laugh, your body’s muscles contract and expand, which increases your heart rate and oxygen consumption.

2. Park further away from your destination: Small habits add up. You could also try getting off the subway or bus a stop earlier than you need to. This will help you get extra steps in, and make feel invigorated when you arrive at work.

3. Walk after meals: Instead of sitting down, try lacing up your shoes for a brisk walk. It’ll lower the post-meal blood sugar spike, and help you use up that energy right away.

4. Do some chores: Vacuuming for 30 minutes can burn 99-166 calories, depending on your weight. Mowing the lawn for 30 minutes can burn up to 200 calories.

5. Pace around the house: Take a stroll around your apartment, office or even around town if you arrive early to meet a friend. It helps get extra steps in, keeps body heat high, and can help keep joints in the lower extremities from stiffening.

6. Do some deep breathing: Believe it or not, taking 4-5 slow, deep breaths before you eat can have a significant impact on the body’s ability to burn calories versus storing them.

7. Take cold showers: If you can handle it, do it. This causes the body to burn calories in order to generate heat and maintain your body’s core temperature.

8. Do calf raises while you cook: Simply stand with your feet about shoulder-width apart and then move to your tippy-toes, and slowly lower yourself back down to the floor.

9. Get enough sleep: During sleep, the body goes into repair and recovery mode. It also equals better hormone function, making you less likely to overeat.

10. Set a daily step goal on your smartwatch: Do this to remind yourself when it’s time to get up and walk throughout the day. Doing it a few times will add up to additional steps – and the burning of more calories.

WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com

A pizza joint in England is willing to put the controversial topping pineapple on your order – but it’ll cost you. Lupa Pizza, a popular pizza purveyor in Norwich, is charging an extra £100 to anyone who orders it. That’s about $125 US. The hefty price tag for a Hawaiian pizza is listed on the its menu for the food delivery service website Deliveroo. It reads: “Yeah, for £100 you can have it. Order the champagne too! Go on you Monster!” Francis Woolf told a reporter: “I absolutely loathe pineapple on a pizza.” His head chef apparently agrees. He said: “I’d rather put a bloody strawberry on one than that tropical menace.” The owner said: “If someone does order the £100 pizza, of course, we will make it for them, but [we] believe that is a fair price for bad taste.”
