SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH: Brought to you by JaseCaseMedical.com

As if there was ever any doubt, science has now confirmed that Mom really is the head of the household. A new study published in the Journal of Marriage and Family seems to confirm what many mothers have long known: They oversee an outsized share of what researchers call the “cognitive household labor” or “mental load” of running a family. Researchers from the University of Bath and the University of Melbourne analyzed a diverse sample of American parents for the study, and concluded that mothers handle a whopping 71% of all household mental load tasks, while fathers are good for just 45%. What’s more, it was found that moms handle, on average, 79% of “daily” cognitive tasks — more than twice what fathers do. Those consist of things like overseeing of children’s schedules, meal planning, and monitoring of household supplies. Dads? They tend to take on more “episodic” mental work, such as maintenance and finances – but mothers still handle a significant portion of these tasks as well. The researchers caution that this imbalance “can lead to stress, burnout and even impact women’s careers…and resentment can build, creating strain between couples.”

Take Your Houseplants for a Walk Day is celebrated on July 27th. On this bizarre day, people walk their houseplants around, so they can get to know their environment a little more, which supposedly provides the plants with a sense of knowing and familiarization with their surrounding areas.

Denzel Washington has become a minister and was just baptized, says TMZ. The outlet published photos showing Washington getting baptized. The religious moment occurred on Saturday at the Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ in New York City. Washington is described in the story as being “dressed in a white robe and burgundy stole adorned with crosses.” He also obtained a minister’s license, with a minister declaring that Washington was now “a member of the clergy of the Churches of God in Christ Worldwide.” He was accompanied at the ceremony by his wife, Pauletta.

“Aquaman” star Jason Momoa is staying in the DC fold. He’ll appear in “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” as ‘Lobo’, the alien bounty hunter who first appeared in the comics in 1983. This week, he shared a quote from that press tour in which he stated he hoped DC would call him about the role. He captioned the quote on Instagram with, “they called.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3jr3jjc4

SCOOP OF THE DAY: Brought to you by JaseCaseMedical.com

A survey says that the top things people give up for the New Year are junk food, alcohol, smoking, and gambling.

A new type of EV battery could power vehicles for up to 8 million km (5 million miles). Electric vehicle manufacturers are using the Canadian Light Source synchrotron in Saskatoon to develop batteries with a lifespan roughly 25 times the average life of currently-used batteries. It’s a long, boring explanation of the tech used to make it, but researchers at the University of Saskatchewan (with some funding from Tesla Canada) were able to take a microscopic look at the inner workings of a regular lithium-ion battery, and develop the new “single-crystal electrode” battery, which is able to sidestep the natural degradation experienced by regular EV batteries. One senior professor involved in the project said the team “charged and discharged” the new battery “24/7 for about 6 years”, and “saw absolutely no signs of degradation.”

Remember Jolt Cola? That’s the soda brand that gained attention in the 1980s for offering “all the sugar and twice the caffeine.” Well, it’s coming back in 2025 – and this time, it’s promising more than TWICE the original caffeine content. Initially marketed as competition to Coca-Cola and Pepsi, Jolt Cola will now join the energy-drink market, taking up shelf space alongside Red Bull, Monster and Celsius. Redcon1, the sports nutrition brand in charge of the relaunch, says Jolt will be marketed as a nostalgic drink, and will be priced at $2.50-$3.00 per 16-ounce can. It will contain 200mg of caffeine, roughly the same as in a 16-ounce cup of coffee.
