Do you LOL? Of course you do! Everyone uses abbreviations when texting – but should we? Apparently not, according to a new study. Research published by the American Psychological Association concluded that if you want to sound more honest — and receive more responses to the texts you send, you should actually spell out words rather than abbreviate them. The researchers carried out an analysis of replies to Discord group chat users, and Tinder users’ conversation histories across 37 countries. Although they expected that texters would appreciate abbreviations because it would convey a sense of closeness, they found that those who use them were seen as putting in less effort, and therefore were seen as less sincere. Texters were found to receive shorter and fewer responses, were less likely to receive a reply, and received contact info less often. And perhaps surprisingly, while younger generations tend to use more text abbreviations, they still weren’t happy about receiving them.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson encourages those who are planning to watch “Moana 2” this week to sing their hearts out in the theaters, if they feel like it. At the UK premiere over the weekend, Johnson said: “Sing! You’ve paid your hard-earned money for a ticket, and you’ve gone into a musical and you’re into it. Sing.” Johnson, who plays the character ‘Maui’, hit the red carpet alongside Auli’i Cravalh, who reprised her role as ‘Moana’. The conversation around proper movie theater etiquette sparked up after the release of movie musical “Wicked” on Friday.

CBS has set a date for “The Talk‘s” very last conversation. The long-running chat show will kick off its final week of episodes on Monday, Dec. 16, and the series finale will air Friday, Dec. 20. While guests have not yet been announced, hosts Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell and Sheryl Underwood all will be on hand for a series of “big holiday giveaways” totaling $2.5 million throughout December. The Talk will be replaced by “Beyond the Gates”, daytime’s first new soap opera in a quarter-century, which will premiere Feb. 24.

A sequel to the Oscar-winning film “Slumdog Millionaire” could soon be in the works. Bridge7, a newly formed production banner, has secured film sequel and television rights. The 2008 Danny Boyle-directed feature, about a young man from an impoverished background who competes on India’s version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?,” collected 8 Academy Awards, including best picture and director, with Dev Patel making his film debut as ‘Jamal’. It is unclear whether Patel, and other original cast members would return for the potential sequel, which will tell “the next chapter of Jamal’s journey.”

A new study shows that crying makes you feel better.

In the new hit movie “Wicked”, the character ‘Elphaba’, played by Cynthia Erivo, who later becomes the ‘Wicked Witch of the West’ shows up at university with bright green skin, a result of her mother drinking a suspicious elixir while pregnant. But did you know that here in the real world, there is some evidence of a non-magical condition that once caused young women’s skin to take on a greenish tint? Chlorosis, a type of anemia, was frequently observed in inactive girls and young women in the 18th and 19th centuries. It’s a condition that occurs when red blood calls are paler than normal. It’s a result of insufficient hemoglobin, the pigment that carries oxygen in the blood. Also called “green sickness,” chlorosis was characterized by the skin taking on a greenish-yellow tinge, as well as exhaustion, shortness of breath, reduced appetite, and a taste for sour foods like pickles. The condition is believed to be caused by iron deficiency, and was typically treated with iron supplements. And iron deficiency is still a problem today. A 2023 study found that nearly 40% of teen girls and young women in the US have an iron deficiency, which can lead to low energy and brain fog.

Computer hackers have demanded $125,000 worth of baguettes as ransom from a French company. The hacking group, known as Hellcat, breached the systems of the French multinational corporation Schneider Electric and gave it until late last week to cough up the ransom. Hellcat posted to its dark web ransomware leak site that it had stolen “more than 40 GB of compressed data” from the energy management and digital automation company. It also wrote “To secure the deletion of this data and prevent its public release, we require a payment of $125,000 USD in Baguettes.” Last year, ABC News reported the average price of a baguette in France to be about 90 cents. No word on whether they came up with the “dough”!

HOW TO TELL IF IT’S A COLD, FLU, OR ALLERGIES:

A few tips from health experts ….

Colds and flu are viral infections that usually bring fever, aches, and fatigue.

Allergies do not come with a fever.

If you’re sneezing and blowing your nose endlessly, it could be a cold or allergies, but a cold will leave after a week-to-10 days. Allergies linger.

Allergies are not accompanied by pains, upset stomach, or exhaustion like the flu.

Symptoms for allergies include ‘allergy shiners’, where blood vessels under eyes dilate, creating dark circles; and the ‘allergy salute’, whereby people constantly rub their nose.

For colds, well, grandma was right. Chicken soup really is a good remedy, though doctors are not completely sure why.
