THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!
Dear John,
I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my very first passport, which will be here any day now. My travel adventure will take place a few weeks after New Year's and will be for one week. I have two problems: first, I plan to travel alone, although I will have a friend meeting me when I get to my destination. No one I know is happy about this, except for me. I've never done anything of this magnitude alone, but I'm sure I can handle myself. Second, the friend with whom I'll be staying is someone I'm very close to, but have never before met in person. I (a woman, 47 years old) have done a lot of research into the area where I'll be going, as well as the life and business of my friend (also a woman, 45 years old) to cover all my bases regarding my safety. I will have enough money with me to assure a place to stay and everything for the week I'll be there in case anything goes wrong. My question is, how do I get past my family's and friends' objections and get them to see that I am ready for this, and they don't need to keep lecturing me about how dumb I am? They're not going to change my mind, and they're not going to be happy for me. I can't explain enough that I need to do this for myself, and that I will be fine. I don't want this to be a fight anymore.
Signed,
Prepared for Launch

This is the news you’ve been waiting all week to hear: An occasional slice of cake – or, say, a handful of delicious Christmas shortbread cookies with icing – might actually be doing your health a favor. Swedish researchers have found that not all sugar is created equal – and your approach to sweet treats could be more important than having the willpower to “just say no”. The new study, published in Frontiers in Public Health, discovered that while sugary drinks are a heart health hazard, enjoying occasional treats could actually provide some cardiovascular benefits. The Lund University team tracked nearly 70,000 participants over more than 2 decades, and found that drinking more than 8 servings of sugary drinks per week was linked to higher risks of several cardiovascular conditions. The researchers suspect that “liquid sugars, found in sweetened beverages…make you feel less full — potentially leading to overconsumption.” They suggest that “moderation is key” when it comes to sugar consumption, in whichever form you consume it.

Austin Butler is set to star in Luca Guadagnino‘s new interpretation of the book “American Psycho”. While there had been rumors that Jacob Elordi was being eyed to play ‘Patrick Bateman’, that didn’t come to pass. And ironically, Elordi and Butler have something in common, having both played different versions of Elvis, in the movies “Priscilla” and “Elvis”. The new American Psycho film will not be a remake of the 2000 film starring Christian Bale, but a new adaptation of the Brett Easton Ellis novel.

Pantone has named Mocha Mousse, an “evocative soft brown,” as its color of the year for 2025. The global color specialist said Mocha Mousse is: “a mellow brown infused with a sensorial and comforting warmth”, and “a warming rich brown hue” that “nurtures with its suggestion of the delectable quality of cacao, chocolate and coffee, appealing to our desire for comfort.” The color reveal continues a tradition that has run for more than a quarter of a century. Apple
is reportedly working on a giant iPad that unfolds to the size of 2
iPad Pros side-by-side. The tech giant has reportedly been honing the
product for a few years, and is currently eyeing a 2028 release date.
The “supersized” iPad has been described as a “single,
uninterrupted piece of glass” that does not have the crease seen on
other foldable devices. When fully opened, it would measure roughly
20 inches (51cm). Not surprisingly, the mega iPad won’t be cheap.
It is being described as a “higher-end device.”

The latest viral drink in Japan is called “Nomu Mayo”. Any idea what the main ingredient is? Yup. Nomu Mayo is a drinkable form of mayonnaise. Launched by Lawson, a well-known Japanese convenience store chain, the company calls it a “chilled drink mayo fanatics have long been waiting for.” Priced at about US $1.30, “mayonnaise-style drink” in a 200-mililiter cup is a white-colored thick beverage, with a label noting ingredients like milk-based foods, mayonnaise-flavoured seasoning, and processed whole eggs. Early reviewers, while admitting that the stuff does taste like mayo, are mixed about the taste. One X user wrote: “I can’t decide if this is genius or a crime against food. Maybe both?” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2536h7ec
