Researchers say they have calculated the maximum lifespan for humans. Statisticians at Erasmus University in the Netherlands studied data from 75,000 people who have died in the last 30 years, and determined that for females, the maximum lifespan is 115.7 years. For men, it is 114.1 years. One of the lead researchers, Professor John Einmahl, noted that they found that while people are living longer these days, the very oldest among us “have not gotten older over the last 30 years”, which indicates “there is certainly some kind of a wall here.” The findings correlate with a study carried out in the US, where a researchers found that human lifespan is unlikely to ever increase beyond 115. The verified oldest person ever, France’s Jeanne Calment, lived 122 years and 164 days.

Jacques Audiard’s Spanish-language musical “Emilia Pérez” came away with the most Golden Globes nominations yesterday. It received 10 nods, one shy of the record set by Robert Altman’s “Nashville” in 1976. The Netflix flick scored a best best motion picture nod, as well as nominations for director Audiard, actress Karla Sofía Gascón, supporting actresses Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña, and 2 original songs. In second place was “The Brutalist” with 7 nominations, Edward Berger’s Vatican potboiler “Conclave” has 6, and critical darling “Anora” and “The Substance” both have 5 nods. TV nominations are led by “The Bear” with 5, and “Only Murders In The Building” and “Shogun”, with 4 each. The 82nd Golden Globes will air Jan. 5 on CBS (and stream on Paramount+), with host Nikki Glaser.

Katie Holmes is setting the record straight about her daughter Suri Cruise’s finances. On Sunday, Holmes shared a post on Instagram disputing a report from the Daily Mail that alleged that 18-year-old Suri had become a millionaire after her trust fund from her father Tom Cruise recently kicked in. The outlet quoted a source as saying that Suri gained access to her trust fund from Cruise, and has an additional trust fund from her mother. Over a screenshot of the article, Holmes wrote: Completely false,” Daily Mail you can stop making stuff up.” In the caption, she wrote: “Enough.”

A poll says Americans don’t trust each other.

Here’s one of those seasonal stories that might bring a tear to your eye: United Airlines is showing the spirit of the season by offering children in need “Fantasy Flights” to the “North Pole.” Planes will depart from 13 cities around the world during December, carrying kids and their caretakers. The planes will briefly take to the skies and circle around before landing at a gate decorated to look like Santa’s workshop. One flight happened in Honolulu last week, with the pilot announcing over the intercom: “Santa has invited us to Christmas Island and all his elves are waiting there on the ground for us.” The 125 travelers, typically families that have children with cancer or those who are grieving, landed on “Christmas Island”, where they were taken to a festive hangar made to look like the North Pole, where they received a present from their wish list, played games, and enjoyed a meal with their families. This month, other fantasy flights will depart from Chicago, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Houston, Virginia, Tokyo, Guam, and London.

A Scottish dairy is offering what it is calling the UK’s most expensive cup o’ joe: US$344 for a ‘flat white’, which is a double shot of espresso topped with a layer of steamed milk and a fleeting work of foam art. That’s about 80 times the average price. Sure, it sounds expensive – but it comes with benefits. The costly cup is actually a perk given to those who buy shares in Mossgiel Organic Dairy’s crowdfunding campaign to enlarge its sustainable operation and produce more milk. Investors who buy 34 shares in the farm get a certificate for a flat white that can be redeemed at one of 13 coffee shops in Scotland that use the dairy’s milk.
