When first introduced to the story of CNN war cameraperson, Margaret Moth, Lawless immediately jumped at the chance. In local lore, Moth was a rockstar and an enigma. Having long eschewed directing, finally here was a story that Lawless could not resist. "It felt like destiny that I should be asked to tell the story of New Zealand's, least known famous person, a true warrior princess. I had played one on TV, but Margaret Moth was the real deal.

How many friends would you say the average guy has? According to a new survey, men have 5 “general” friends, 3 close friends, and 2 best friends, on average. The poll of 2,000 guys in the US also found that 35% of them also have a “friend crush”. That’s a dude that they want to be friends with. 33% of men said they are good with calling their friends “bro”. “Brother” or “brotha” is used by 26%, and 21% call them “homie”. Only 6% would say they have a “bestie”. About half of Gen Z and millennials said they spend the most time playing video games when they’re with their friends, while Gen X and baby boomers prefer to watch sports with their guy friends, and those 80 and up said they tend to go to restaurants together.

After 20 years, the creator of “Desperate Housewives” wants to make a prequel series. Following the hit ABC series’ milestone anniversary last month, Marc Cherry, the 2-time Emmy-nominated exec-producer and showrunner recently shared his vision for a reboot of Desperate Housewives, which ran from 2004-12. He told People that he’d like to do a prequel series “because the character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane.” He called Wisteria “the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had”, and pondered: “I wonder if I could write Wisteria Lane in like, 1966.’”

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s LA home was swarmed by police on Thanksgiving Day after someone claimed a bomb had been placed in his mailbox. LAPD rushed to the “Terminator” star’s mansion, but upon inspection of the mailbox and surrounding area, no bomb was found. Cops spoke with Schwarzenegger’s security team, who said it would be “virtually impossible” to plant a bomb at his home, given his extensive camera surveillance and 24 hour protection. Police are treating the incident as “swatting” – the practice of making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to an address. The actor was not home at the time of the incident.

A baby-naming expert has released her list of “icks” when it comes to selecting the right name for a child – and she also has identified which names are trending for 2025. Colleen Slagen, who works with Parents.com, said in a TikTok video that she finds it “cringey” when parents give their kids names that sound “overly matchy” with their siblings. You know the routine: When the children’s names rhyme, or when there are 4 or 5 kids whose names all start with the same letter – or maybe they all end with the “Y” sound. Slagen also has a problem with moms who “steal” someone else’s prospective baby name. She admits that no one “owns” a baby name, but if you take a baby name idea from someone simply because they haven’t had the chance to use it yet, “That’s an ick.” Her other big ick to avoid involves “crazy” spellings of common names. Quote: “Changing the spelling of a super common name is not the way to be original.” In conjunction with Parents.com, here are the “hot trending” baby names for 2025 in the USA (not necessarily the most-popular, but gaining in popularity…):

A research group at Carnegie Mellon University is exploring technology that could one day power your earbuds, or any other small gadget . . . by sucking electricity through your skin. That would mean, of course, that your devices would never run out of juice again. “Power-over-Skin” technology works by transforming the human body into a power delivery medium, using RF (radio frequency) signals to wirelessly transmit electricity across the skin. A co-author of the research project says it could become a game-changer for the consumer electronics industry.

FOODS THAT FADED AWAY:

Just like fashion and entertainment, some foods fall in and out of favor, depending on our ever-changing tastes. Here are some foods that we just aren’t as interested in anymore, according to Stacker…

Olive loaf: Remember the deli meat mixture of pork, chicken and beef with green olives? (You’re lucky if you don’t!)

Ambrosia salad: This sweet creamy salad can include canned pineapple and mandarin oranges as well as fresh oranges, miniature marshmallows, and coconut.

Orange drink: Think Tang, or an equivalent by another company. It’s still out there, but definitely not as popular as it once was.

TV dinners: While they were a staple on many grocery lists in the 1960s-80s, the ready-to-heat meal with a main, sides and even a dessert has been replaced by other instant-style meals.

Jello mold: Also referred to as Jello salad, this was a gelatin mold with a mix of things like fruit, grated carrots and other veggies, cottage and cream cheese, marshmallows, and crunchy fillings like pretzels and nuts.

Ice cream soda: During its heyday in the early 1900s, thousands of shops served up this sweet soda beverage with scoops of ice cream and tasty homemade syrups.

Ovaltine: Originally made in Switzerland, it is a chocolate powder made from whey, malt, cocoa, and sugar that can be prepared in hot or cold milk. Although tasty and full of vitamins, it is not nearly as popular as it once was. (Same.)

Fruitcake: Of COURSE fruitcake! It dates back to ancient Roman times, a sweet energy bar made with barley, honey, pomegranate seeds, wine, and dried fruit. Thankfully, they are now pretty much relegated to a holiday sweet treat.
