When the munchies hit, what type of snack are you reaching for? According to new research, your answer might reveal a lot about your personality. An analysis of peoples’ snack choices by a team at Gettysburg college could explain why we tend to describe nice people as “sweet”. The researchers wrote that the association between agreeableness and the preference for a sweet taste is related to the fact that we use terms like “sweetie” and “honey” to refer to those we love. And this co-relation, where agreeableness was “significantly and positively” associated with sweet taste preferences. was found to be true among all test participants, including those from other cultures in China, Germany, and Mexico, in addition to the US. The team concluded: “People may resonate with experiences that ‘fit’ their personalities. Metaphors might be one way to examine this fit.”

The streaming quality during the Mike Tyson/Jake Paul fight was so bad, Netflix has been hit with a class-action lawsuit over it. TMZ says it has obtained court documents showing that a Ronald “Blue” Denton filed the suit in Florida on Monday, 3 days after he says he and thousands of others struggled to watch Netflix’s broadcast of the bout. He claims viewers were “faced with legendary problems, including: no access, streaming glitches, and buffering issues.” Denton is suing Netflix for breach of contract, among other things, and asking for unspecified damages. (How ‘bout a lawsuit about the quality of the FIGHT?)

Jay Leno has injured himself – again — and this time, he’s got a broken wrist and an eyepatch to prove it. After lighting his face on fire and breaking several bones in multiple car accidents, Leno explained in an interview how one side of his face ended up covered in deep purple bruises. According to the 74-year-old, he attempted to walk down a steep hill in order to get to a restaurant, when: “Boom. Yeah, I rolled down the hill. Hit my head on a rock, knocked me in the eye.” Raising the patch, he revealed a painful looking black eye that could barely open. Leno still managed to perform that night, and said “It’s not that big a deal”.

If you’ve ever done something for someone around the house, then uttered the phrase “A thank you would be nice”, then you can relate. A simple “Thank you” might be more important than we think, say researchers at the University of Illinois. They found that feeling appreciated by family members isn’t just nice — it is scientifically linked to better relationships and better mental health. AND they found that gratitude from different family members can affect your relationships with them in different ways. According to the research, feeling appreciated by your romantic partner mainly improves relationship satisfaction, while receiving gratitude from your children helps reduce the stress of parenting. And it seems if you have teenagers in the house, their appreciation of what you do goes a long way in improving your mental health. Oh, and something to work on, guys: The research team also found that women in their study reported feeling less appreciated than men did — both by their romantic partners and by their older children.
