SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH: Brought to you by TeamSolvo.com

A new study says that if you have a sweet tooth, it may be genetic – and your DNA could be encouraging you to eat more. An international team of researchers found that a genetic variation in our ability to digest certain sugars may influence how much we like sweet foods — and how much we consume. The scientists determined that the gene known as ‘sucrose-isomaltase plays a key role in breaking down sucrose (table sugar). Those with mutations in that gene have difficulty breaking down sucrose. And in conducting tests on 140,000 people, they found that those who couldn’t digest sucrose consumed significantly fewer sucrose-rich foods. The results were published in the journal Gastroenterology.

Keanu Reeves’ iconic bullet-dodging backbend in “The Matrix” has topped a poll of the best cinematic stunts of all time. 2,000 film buffs crowned ‘Neo’s’ impressive technique seen in the 1999 action sci-fi blockbuster the winner — topping Tom Cruise’s death-defying performance hanging from a plane in 2015’s “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation”. The breathtaking car skydive sequence from “Fast and Furious 7” came third. In 4th and 5th, respectively were stunts in the movies “Ben-Hur” and “Skyfall.”

Apple TV+ won’t release its Jon Hamm-led drama “Your Friends & Neighbors” for several months, but it’s already set to get going on a second season. The streamer has renewed the show for season 2, while also setting a premiere date and offering up a first look at the inaugural run. The 9-episode first season of Your Friends & Neighbors will premiere April 11. Hamm stars as ‘Andrew “Coop” Cooper’, a hedge fund manager who’s been fired from his job and recently divorced, and resorts to stealing from the homes of his neighbors. The series also stars Amanda Peet and Olivia Munn.

Dana Carvey isn’t done with his return to “Saturday Night Live”, but he’s probably packing in the Elon Musk impression for now. In a podcast appearance, Carvey admitted “I can’t do Elon Musk very well. But I can do something that sounds not like anything. He has an incredible accent — South Africa via Canada, via Pennsylvania…it’s a little bit of Australian in there, a little bit of British, but he’s not totally that.” Musk declared the show has been “dying slowly for years” after Carvey impersonated him in a post-election cold open.

A study says marijuana can weaken the heart muscles.

Research shows that couples who use marijuana are less likely to engage in domestic violence.

When it comes to holiday spending, shoppers aren’t saying they intend to hold back this year, but they do plan to take a more “deliberate” approach to the purchases they make. A new study of 2,000 consumers in the US who celebrate a winter holiday reveals the growing trend of “slow shopping”. Nearly 3 in 4 respondents said slow shopping would be a good descriptor of how they are handling things this holiday season. Three in 5 indicated they’re starting earlier than usual, and making more frequent shopping trips and picking up fewer gifts at a time. The Talker Research poll found that more than half of those who have embraced the slow shopping trend are doing so to ensure they are only buying the items they truly want. Similarly, 51% said they’re using slow shopping in order to take advantage of more deals and promotions. And by the way, 68% said they plan to spend the same or more than they did last year.

WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com

A new snack served on the streets of Chengdu, China has been getting lots of attention, thanks to its odd appearance; it looks like a clump of black human hair. ‘Fa Cai’ or ‘Fat Choy’ is a type of dried cynobacterium that has long been a part of Chinese cuisine. It grows in dry and barren desert areas, and is processed by air-drying after harvesting. Because of its appearance, it is commonly known as the “hair vegetable”. Fa Cai is usually served as black vermicelli in broths and soups, but the dark treat recently went viral as a new street snack – that makes the consumer look as though they are eating human hair.
