Researchers in Denmark say they have come up with a new drug that mimics the effects and benefits of strenuous exercise, without the user having to move a muscle, if you can believe it. Test results, published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, shows that that the drug, known as “LaKe”, produces the same health benefits as running 10km (6.2m) at a fast pace. In experiments on rats, it was shown to flush toxins, suppress appetite, and strengthen the heart, thereby reducing the risk of conditions like heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. Human trials will soon take place.

A TV series based on Stephen King’s novel “Carrie” is in development. Horror maven Mike Flanagan will write and executive produce the show for Amazon MGM Studios. The logline describes it as a “timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White, who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s…untimely death, Carrie finds herself contending with…a bullying scandal that shatters her community, and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.” King’s 1972 book was adapted into a hit film in 1976 with Sissy Spacek in the title role.

Liam Neeson‘s run as an action movie star may come to an end next year. The Oscar nominee is teasing his retirement from the genre that reignited his acting career in 2008, with “Taken”. And now, even into his 70s, Neeson continues to perform his own fight scenes with some help from longtime stunt collaborator Mark Vanselow. But it can’t go on forever. He said to People: “I’m 72 — it has to stop at some stage…I don’t want Mark to be fighting my fight scenes for me.” While Neeson has not yet set a specific date for his last action movie role, he did say that it will likely be in 2025, “Maybe the end of next year.”

If you’ve ever tried to type with long fingernails, you know it can be cumbersome and, well – inefficient. That’s why Sara Young Wang created the Tippy Type, a $45 keyboard cover designed to be used by those with nails to die for – either natural or acrylic. The Tippy Type is a silicone keyboard cover with raised keys to allow for easier typing. And it has become a viral sensation among “clawed” corporate employees. And while the Tippy Type currently only accommodates medium-long nails, Wang is looking to expand, after receiving a deluge of requests for new colors, international keyboards, covers made to fit different models — and even a version made specifically for gamers.

A new fire station in Germany, that was destroyed in a fire which caused about US$26 million in damage and destroyed equipment, did not have a fire alarm. Fire broke out early one morning last week at the Stadtallendorf fire station in Hesse and destroyed, among other things, the equipment hall and about a dozen emergency vehicles. Local officials told media that no fire alarm system was installed in the building because experts considered it unnecessary. No one was hurt.
