Experts are saying that there is one simple way for us to improve our work-life balance. Well, I’m not so sure that doing this is going to be ‘simple’, but according to German researchers, people who reduced their smartphone use by just one hour a day felt happier and more motivated at work — and employers benefited as well, with increased productivity. The study, published in the journal Acta Psychologica, found that study participants said they felt less depressed and more in control when they made this change. The researchers concluded that reducing smartphone use by 60 minutes per day of “non-work-related screen time”, in combination with increased physical activity “could improve employees’ work satisfaction and mental health”.

If you’re trying to lose weight, take the stairs…during your workout. Lauri van Houten, vice president of the International Skyrunning Federation, says that stairclimbing “gets you fit faster and consumes more calories”. She suggests adding a few minutes of stair-climbing as a daily routine. As you know, stairs are accessible almost everywhere, and research shows it’s more effective than walking on level ground. And the great news? The more you weigh, the more calories you’ll burn by climbing stairs.

If you’re comfortable using legal jargon in everyday life, Reese Witherspoon wants you. The Oscar winner, who made pink-loving Harvard Law student ‘Elle Woods’ an icon in the 2001 film “Legally Blonde”, has announced a global casting call for the upcoming prequel series about her character’s teen years. In an Instagram video, she said: “We are starting the casting process, and we are making it open…I cannot wait to see all the Elle Woods’ out there. This is gonna be really fun!” Earlier this year, Witherspoon confirmed she would produce the Prime Video series. A press release describes the character as “a driven, natural born leader who will always stop to straighten another woman’s crown.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mva3w99u

After earlier warnings of a password sharing crackdown coming to Disney+, the streamer has officially started rolling out its paid sharing features to subscribers in the US, Canada, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region this week, following launches in select markets over the summer. Account holders looking to add someone outside of their household to their Disney+ subscription will pay an additional $6.99 per month for basic plans and $9.99 for premium. A household is defined as “a collection of devices associated with your primary…residence that are used by the individuals who reside there.”

The “Saturday Night Live” Season 50 premiere featured a cold open that revealed Dana Carvey as Joe Biden, Jim Gaffigan as Tim Walz and Andy Samberg as Doug Emhoff, alongside Maya Rudolph’s previously-announced return as Vice President Kamala Harris. But these were no mere one-off cameos — Carvey, Gaffigan and Samberg are set to play these roles for the duration of Season 50. Carvey takes over the Biden role from Mikey Day, who played the President last season. Jim Carrey famously played Biden during the 2020 election, but stepped out of the role after Biden was elected. Carvey was an “SNL” cast member from 1986-93, and during that time he became famous for his impression of President George H.W. Bush.

According to a new study, football fans eat significantly more fat and calories the day after their team loses a game.

Colds, flu, and COVID – we’re starting to pile up quite a list of medicines and needles needed to fight respiratory infections. But some day soon, you made be able to take care of all 3 with just a simple spray. American scientists have developed PCANS, a nasal spray that they say could shield us from a wide range of airborne threats, from everyday colds to pandemic-causing viruses. It’s a big breakthrough, which, if successful, could also protect us from pneumonia-causing bacteria. The scientists from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston say that even though vaccines and masks have played a crucial role in combating infections, “We need new ways of protecting ourselves”, and PCANS uses a drug-free formulation which works by trapping respiratory droplets, immobilizing germs, and neutralizing them, preventing infection.

The mystery of an SUV which was seen perched on top of a Fort Myers, Florida dumpster has been solved. It turns out the SUV had been lifted onto the dumpster by a forklift operated by a construction worker. The vehicle had been left parked in a work area, and as one worker put it: “Sometimes when you park where you’re not supposed to, this is what happens.” The vehicle was later removed from the dumpster and relocated to a parking space away from the work area.
