Some mental health professionals are suggesting to patients that in today’s busy world, instead of constantly creating and updating a never-ending series of “to-do” lists, we should try making “to-don’t” lists. Rachel Botsman of Oxford University, is credited for coming up with the idea. While the process of creating a “to-do” list — sitting down and writing out goals, tasks, or objectives – can be lead to valuable neurological orientation, the same principle apparently works in reverse. Taking time to write out the overburdening and non-essential activities that clog up our days might help you realize just how non-essential or not time-sensitive some tasks are. One psychologist pointed out that even though we only have so much time each day, we always seem to be adding more things to our “to-do list”, in hopes that it will get us ahead. The whole idea is to identify the things that are draining you, that you can either stop doing, or delegate. A few examples that ABC AU reporter Emily McGrorey put on her “to-don’t” list after doing a report on the concept:

Don’t schedule meetings between 8am and 11am.

Put casual clothes on a non-wrinkle tumble dry cycle rather than ironing them.

Don’t wash dishes or clothes every day of the week, but every other day.

Regular coffee or caffeine consumption has a protective effect against developing conditions such as coronary heart disease and stroke, the most common killers in society today, says research. As published in the Endocrine Society, 3 cups of coffee per day were associated with test subjects having a decreased likelihood of “new-onset cardiometabolic multimorbidity.” That refers to the presence of at least 2 serious conditions including heart attack, stroke, diabetes, insulin resistance and liver disease. Numerous previous studies have revealed the protective effects of coffee, tea, and caffeine consumption.

Ryan Murphy is defending his work on “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story”, responding to Erik Menendez’s criticism of the series, which he called a “dishonest portrayal.” Murphy told E! News: “That’s interesting because I know he hasn’t watched the show.” Murphy said that he hopes Menendez does watch it, and if he did, “He would be incredibly proud of Cooper Koch, who plays him.” According to Murphy, the miniseries shows “many, many, many perspectives”, and the intention is to “present…all the facts and have you…make up your own mind about who’s innocent, who’s guilty, and who’s the monster.”

You might want to check in with your favorite boomers, because a new copypasta is spreading around the internet. A what? A copypasta is a chunk of text that encourages people to copy and paste it to their own social media profiles, and can be seen as ‘spam’ of sorts. Well, here’s the latest: Nearly 800,000 people have already shared the fake “Goodbye Meta AI” post on Instagram. The image, which asks people to reshare it, says it denies Meta the right to scrape a user’s posts and photos to train Meta AI. But according to Meta, making a public declaration about it doesn’t do anything. Even celebrities like James McAvoy, Ashley Tisdale, and Tom Brady have shared the post. Experts on this kind of thing admit that while the post is bogus, peoples’ anxiety about the onslaught of AI is real. And if you want to make sure your posts aren’t used to train AI, simply make your accounts private. But remember: Meta has probably already been using anything you’ve uploaded to its platforms as far back as 2007 to train its model, Meta AI. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4wpbfxum

A suburban Detroit library had to be closed after a DVD case in a book return bin was found to be filled with bugs. Royal Oak Public Library said on social media that it was closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning. The DVD had been returned sometime after closing last Friday. Upon discovery of the bugs on Saturday morning, “the book drops were immediately locked and all items that were in those book drops were bagged up and isolated.” A follow-up post Monday said the facility had been given the all-clear by a pest control company and would reopen at 1pm. The insects in the DVD case were identified by the company as cockroaches.
