Would you rather have a conversation in person or via text? It probably won’t come as a surprise to you that 7 in 10 millennials and Gen Z say they prefer to communicate digitally – mostly by text – than in person. In a poll of 4,000 young adults between 18-34 throughout a number of Western countries, 65% said they talk to peers more often via texting or cell phone, and that number is even higher in English-speaking nations, where about 74% said they prefer to talk via text. A few other “phone findings” from the survey…

62% percent would rather forget their wallet than their phone when going out.

70% said they sleep within arm’s length of their phone. And just over half even check their phone for notifications if they wake up in the night.

66% bring their device with them to the restroom.

Men will do some crazy things to try to impress a woman. Think of all those elaborate marriage proposals, and dangerous TikTok challenges. Well, it turns out it’s a woman’s voice that determines how far he’ll go. And while earlier studies have shown that men seem to have a preference for women with a bubbly high-register, new research published in Personality and Individual Differences found that men are more willing to be lured into danger for women with a high-pitched voice — but only if she’s into that. In other words, when women seem disinterested in risk-taking behavior, men tend to play it safe.

The Batman” director Matt Reeves has revealed that more movie and TV spin-offs are in the works. He’s currently working on the DC superhero sequel after releasing its HBO spin-off “The Penguin”, and has now teased there are “evolved” plans for future films and shows set in ‘The Batman’ universe. He also revealed he’s still planning to make a mainline trilogy in the DC universe, which would follow Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader as he becomes a full-fledged hero.

A “Friends” game show is coming in honor of the sitcom’s 30th anniversary. The 4-part competition series “Fast Friends,” will be filmed at ‘The Friends Experience: The One in New York’, a 2-story, 17,000 square-foot attraction featuring nostalgia-filled rooms and recreated sets. A press release says: “From racing through Rachel and Monica’s apartment to darting across Joey and Chandler’s bachelor pad and grabbing a coffee at Central Perk, fans will relive their favorite moments while being put to the test with trivia, puzzles and games” The winning team will be crowned the ultimate Friends fans. The show will stream on Max. No release date yet.

A study has found that 18% of us say we’d rather walk 5 miles (8km) than visit the dentist.

Everyone knows that if someone is choking, the best thing to do for them is to perform the Heimlich maneuver – or is it? Since its introduction in 1974, the Heimlich maneuver, where a first-aider places their arms around a choking person from behind, and pulls upwards and inwards on the abdomen, in an effort to expel anything lodged in the airway, has been the recommended method of assistance. But research has linked the Heimlich to damage to the ribs and heart valves, as well as stomach and food pipe ruptures. And Grace Lawson, a lead EMT trainer with St. John Ambulance, says that first, you should ask “if they are choking, just in case it might be something like a severe allergy which has caused their throat to swell — a different reason for obstruction.” Next, ask if the patient can cough, to see if the obstruction can be dislodged that way. If not, you should first try administering 5 back blows, directly between the shoulder blades, using the heel of your hand. This action can be just as effective in dislodging an obstruction, without the possible harm of the Heimlich, according to the American Red Cross. If that doesn’t work, THEN you should try the Heimlich.

FUN FACT FOR YOU:
Share this with your friends... they'll think you're really smart!

No matter what you’ve been told, elephants are NOT afraid of mice.

All wrestlers must have a handkerchief handy. (This applies to ‘competitive’ rather than ‘spectacle’ wrestling…)

Golfers must sign their scorecards, or they are disqualified.

If you remove your shirt during a footrace, you’re disqualified.

In baseball, if a player attempts to catch a ball with their hat, the batter is awarded third base. This is called a ‘ground-rule triple’.

I never thought I’d see the day, but Tamagotchis are cool again. Gen Z has revived the pocket-sized plaything that Millennials will fondly remember. In case you don’t know, Tamagotchis are “virtual pets” — digital devices that need to be “cared for” by the owner. They were huge in the 1990s, and have once again become popular among the younger generation. And with the Tamagotchi trend growing, some new fans are even carrying the keychain knick-knack to their purses as a fun accessory. By the way, the $20 toy has been updated since its launch almost 3 decades ago, allowing users to connect with friends, play on Wi-Fi, and download different items. But that hasn’t stopped some older Tamagotchi devotees from boasting about their original-generation models on social media. One said in a video: “With how the world is at the moment…it’s nice to just look down at your little pixel pet every now and again, forget it all for a moment to feed it a little snack or play a little game, and remember a much simpler time.”
