A new poll says that one-third of adults experience anxiety when they’re forced to – do math. The study of 3,000 adults in the UK found that almost a third (29%) actively try to avoid anything to do with numbers and data. And with recent inflationary pressures, and the increasing cost of living putting greater pressure on people’s math skills in order to make ends meet, 29% also said this affects their mental wellness. And why do some of us find working with numbers so difficult? More than half said they stopped studying math in school as soon as they were allowed to. And 66% said they have to agree that you don’t realize how important math skills are until you need them to navigate your daily life.

If your child is a picky eater, you might have yourself to blame. A new study by British researchers found that food fussiness in children is “a largely genetic trait,” while other factors, such as the types of foods eaten at home and where meals are eaten, may only be significant when the child is a toddler. The research also found that food pickiness tends to peak when a child is 7 years old, often declining slightly as they enter adolescence. The study found that environmental factors can, however, have an impact on a child’s food pickiness when they are a toddler. This means that early interventions to help them learn to eat a wider range of food could reduce their pickiness in the future.

Great news for “Scream” fans. Neve Campbell and Kevin Williamson revealed on Instagram that the 7th installment of the classic meta-horror franchise will be released by Paramount on Feb. 27, 2026. It was previously announced that Campbell would return to the series as heroine ‘Sidney Prescott’, after stepping out of “Scream VI” in 2023 over a pay dispute. Created by Williamson alongside director Wes Craven, Scream became one of the defining horror series of the 1990s for its satire of slasher film tropes. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/34y36j6z

A study shows that many office workers feel they are simply “too tired” to exercise.

In what may signal the end of privacy as we know it, two Harvard students say they were able to use facial recognition software and Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses to almost instantly identify random strangers on the street, and compile their personal info from the internet. In a video on X, AnhPhu Nguyen and Caine Ardayfio show how they built I-XRAY, which uses the glasses to capture people’s images, then identify them through a publicly accessible facial recognition search site, and use a large language model to compile the person’s information. They were able to access people’s addresses, the names of their parents, and photos in just minutes. They say they conducted their experiment to highlight the privacy concerns that come with consumer tech – and will NOT release the code for the program.

COMMON-SENSE THAT ISN’T SO COMMON:

A BuzzFeed discussion recently asked people to share the common-sense things they thought most people knew, but it turned out they did not. Here are the best responses…

☞ “The days of the year shift one day ahead each year. So, Oct. 1 this year is on a Tuesday, which means in 2025 it will be a Wednesday, and in 2026, it will be a Thursday. In leap years, the shift is 2 days.”

☞ “On plastic wrap and aluminum foil boxes, there are punch tabs on the sides that hold the roll in place.”

☞ “It’s almost always against the law not to have a house number. It is imperative for 911/EMT/police and fire departments.”

☞ “Antibiotics don’t work on viruses.”

☞ “I’m amazed when people don’t know that even-numbered highways run east–west, and odd-numbered highways run north–south (in the US)”.

☞ “The left lane on the (highway) is for *fast* drivers and passing. The right lane is for the *slow* drivers.”

☞ “When walking — down an aisle or on a sidewalk — always stay to your right. This will allow people to pass easily and avoid that awkward sidestep thing or being in the middle blocking everyone.” (Same thing on escalators, people!)

☞ “I had no idea that if you swipe on a locked iPhone screen, the camera pops up.”

☞ “Christmas is in the summertime in the Southern Hemisphere. Seems logical and something everyone knows, but some dupes think it’s snowing in South America in December.”

☞ “‘Loosen’ and ‘unloosen’ mean exactly the same thing. Look it up in any dictionary.
