Many game shows are back to airing new episodes this month, following summer reruns. And that’s great news, because watching them is good for your brain, according to experts. How? Game shows have several cognitive benefits, because they require you to pay close attention, to quickly process information, and to either problem-solve, or recall information, in order to provide an answer, says Glen R. Finney, director of the Memory and Cognition Program with Geisinger Health in Wilkes-Barre PA. Doing so “engages numerous networks in the brain in an engaging and enjoyable way, which also enhances learning.” This can help boost mental acuity. Other experts agree, and say that watching game show can also help your memory, and the brain’s ability to access stored information quickly. There is also evidence that playing along with game shows can improve social engagement, goes a long way in improving your mental health.

A study has found that 4 out of 10 cats can play fetch, way more than previously believed. Perdue University researchers analyzed data from online surveys of cat owners. Of over 8,000 cat owners surveyed, 41% reported that their cat would sometimes, frequently or always retrieve thrown toys or objects. Cats are more likely to display fetching behavior if they are generally more active and playful, and if they live indoors.

Adam Sandler is ready to take a swing at “Happy Gilmore 2” for Netflix. The streamer has announced that the sequel to the 1996 comedy is ready to start rolling, posting on X: “Happy Gilmore 2 is officially in production.” It included a photo from the set, showing a likeness of the Boston Bruins hockey jersey that Sandler’s character wore in the first film. Kyle Newacheck (“Murder Mystery”) will direct from a script co-written by Sandler. No plot details yet, but we do know that NFL star Travis Kelce will make a cameo. Did someone say Beetlejuice’s name 3 times? Because the mischievous demon triumphantly returned to unleash his mayhem at the box office. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 horror comedy about a pesky poltergeist, scored a huge $110 million domestically in its opening weekend. That gives it the second-biggest September debut of all time, behind only 2017’s “It” ($123 million). It’s also the year’s third-best opening, behind “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “Inside Out 2”. Deadpool & Wolverine slid to second place with $6.4 million, and “Reagan” remained at #3.

The ghost with the most is set to inject a little life into the sluggish box office. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 film about a pesky poltergeist, is eyeing a huge $100-110 million opening weekend. Based on those estimated ticket sales, it could rank alongside 2017’s “It” ($123 million) and 2019’s “It: Chapter 2” ($91 million) as the biggest September debuts of all time. Distributor Warner Bros is projecting a more conservative $80 million to start – and anything more than that would be scary-good, given the film’s $100 million production budget.

SCOOP OF THE DAY: Brought to you by BetterCreditCards.com

A study found that just over 65% of adults drink alcohol to relax.

These days, a lot of people are relying on Artificial Intelligence for assistance with work projects, science experiments, and yes, even school work. But this is a new application for the tech, at least as far as I know: a Reddit user, who goes by the name “SedRitz”, challenged ChatGPT to “Write the most unattractive Tinder bio you can think of.” The result did not disappoint. Here is the savage response that he…or she…received in response:

42-year-old couch potato with a passion for complaining. Looking for someone who doesn’t mind my 12 cats and can tolerate my collection of toenail clippings. I don’t believe in deodorant, and I think showering is overrated. My ideal date is watching conspiracy theory videos on YouTube while eating expired canned food. No, I won’t stop talking about my ex, and yes, I live with my mom. Swipe left if you can’t handle the real me.”
