It would seem that these days, we’re becoming less and less willing to “take one for the team” and come into work when we’re not feeling well. Human resources platform Dayforce found that among American workers, sick leave jumped by an astounding 55% from 2019 to 2023. Plus, data from smaller businesses shows that 30% of white-collar workers took sick days last year, a 42% increase from 2019. And it’s Gen Z that seems to be leading the charge – to not tough-it-out. Sick leave among workers under age 35 rose more than other age brackets. Experts attribute this post-pandemic rise in calling out to several factors, including Gen Z’s willingness (and need) to take mental health days.

It's fairly well known that dolphins are incredibly clever animals—and that's thanks in part to what's inside their noggins. Amazon River dolphins—the wonderfully pink creatures that are also known as Boto or Boutu—have a brain capacity that is 40 percent larger than that of humans. Bottlenose dolphins also have larger brain capacities than humans do—1,600 grams versus 1,300 grams, according to the American Association of Advancement of Science.

Zach Braff is addressing the possibility of a “Scrubs” reboot — and he’s hopeful it will happen. He recently told “Entertainment Tonight”: “Scrubs is a Disney show. Bill [Lawrence] has a Warner Bros. deal. Once those 2 companies figure that out, I think the people will get what they want. I think it’s gonna happen.” Braff also expressed his interest in reprising his role of ‘Dr. John Michael “JD” Dorian’ and noted: “It would be so much fun [with] all my favorite people. We all still hang out.”

Yellowstone” may not be getting put out to pasture after all. Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount Network hit, which was cancelled following its Season 5A finale in May 2023, will reportedly be continuing on with Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser taking over from Kevin Costner as the series’ leads. According to the industry newsletter Puck, OG cast members Reilly and Hauser, who were rumored (but never confirmed) to be in talks to reprise their roles of newlyweds ‘Beth Dutton’ and ‘Rip Wheeler’ on the spinoff “The Madison”, are closing deals to remain with the mothership show. No official comment so far from Paramount.

Ritchie Valens is headed back to the big screen. Mucho Mas Media and Sony Pictures have teamed up to develop a remake of the Golden Globe-nominated 1987 film “La Bamba,” based on the life of the rock and roll legend. Luis Valdez, the writer and director of the original film, is on board as an executive producer. Oscar-nominated writer José Rivera (“The Motorcycle Diaries”) will pen the script. Lou Diamond Phillips portrayed Valens in the original film, which depicts the 17-year-old Mexican-American’s rise to fame.

Great news for you if you wrecked your eyebrows in the ‘90s with tweezers and bad lighting: The “barely-there” brow is coming back. While big-browed tastemakers have dominated grooming standards for over a decade, if trend forecasts and red carpets are anything to go by, less is more once again. It’s evident everywhere from TikTok to Paris Fashion Week, where make-up artist Pat McGrath painted the finest of curved lines high on the models’ foreheads, concealing their natural eyebrows below. And at the Met Gala, barely-there brows were on full display, with Zendaya, FKA Twigs, and Doja Cat opting for either bleached out or wafer-thin styles.

A man well known for making bubbles for children had his bubble burst by park rangers. Sandy Snakenberg, “The Bubble Pirate”, says he’s been blowing bubbles in public parks for years. The homeless disabled veteran lives out of his van, where he creates his bubble solution. But it would seem it’s a no-no to leave behind liquid bubble juice at La Jolla Cove in San Diego. That’s where park rangers approached him, telling him there had been complaints, and that the bubble solution left behind constitutes littering. A city spokesperson said Snakenberg uses up to 6 gallons of solution each time he blows bubbles, and he was issued the “lowest level citation available.” Snakenberg has no plans to stop blowing bubbles. After all, he said: “I’m a bubbleologist.”
