Have you had a chance to get away yet this summer? While pretty much everyone can agree that there’s nothing like embarking on a vacation trip, the sad reality is that at some point in your journey, you’ll probably realize that you’ve forgotten something. According to a survey, 90% of adult travelers have had that moment when they notice that an essential item didn’t make the trip with them. According to the poll of 2,000 Americans, the most inconvenient things people have forgotten include socks (17%), water bottles (14%) and even their wallet (8%). 27% have left behind their sunscreen, and 18% even forgot to pack their medications. The survey also revealed that nearly 40% of us seem to be more forgetful than usual when traveling, with, on average, 3 items being left behind on every trip. The good news is that 23% said they have a “mom friend” when traveling, who keeps supplies on hand, such as napkins or band-aids, and reminds everyone to do important things like eat and stay hydrated.

The
U.S. almost went to war with Canada over a pig. In 1859, the U.S.
almost went to war with Canada because of a pig. Just a few years
after the Oregon Treaty was signed to end a border dispute between
America and Britain (which still ruled over the area that came to be
known as Canada), things got a little heated on San Juan Island where
citizens from both countries were located. Historic UK explains that
"a pig belonging to the British accidentally wandered onto the
land of Lyman Cutlar, an American farmer. When Cutlar noticed the pig
eating some of his potatoes he was incensed, and in a fit of rage
shot and killed the pig." Despite efforts to resolve the
situation between the two men, things spread into the rest of the
community and got to the point where the governor of British Columbia
sent three warships to the area. The two sides continued to increase
their military force over the following month until British Navy
Admiral Robert L. Baynes arrived and ended things by stating that he
would not "involve two great nations in a war over a squabble
about a pig."

Hallmark has set a September 10 launch date for its new streaming service. “Hallmark+” doubles as both a streaming service for Hallmark programming, as well as a membership rewards program. Hallmark+ subscribers will also have access to Hallmark VIP Movie Pass features. Plans start at $7.99 a month.
Eugene and Dan Levy will host the 2024 Emmys together, ABC announced on Friday. The “Schitt’s Creek” stars and creators will make history as the first-ever father-son duo to host the event. In a statement, the Levys said: “For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough.” In 2020, Eugene took home the prize for Outstanding Comedy Actor, while Dan won Best Supporting Comedy Actor. Dan also won for writing and directing, and both took the award for Outstanding Comedy Series as exec producers. This year’s Emmys are set for Sept. 15.

There’s now an app that you can use to send a message to break up with your significant other.
In honor of “Peanuts’” 75th birthday, over 80 farms across 35 states and provinces in the US and Canada will create corn mazes based on the comic strip. The mazes, located from California to New York, and Ontario to Texas — are expected to attract more than 2 million visitors this summer and fall. Mazes range in size from 1.5 acres to 20 acres — and are made mostly of corn, and sometimes sunflowers. They’re custom created by the world’s largest corn maze consulting company, The MAiZE Inc. Farmers are signing up for the free service because the mazes are sure to attract crowds, who may also buy fresh produce, and participate in things like hay rides and pumpkin carvings.

A former food service director at a school district in the Chicago area has been sentenced to 9 years in prison after admitting she stole $1.5 million worth of…chicken wings. Vera Liddell was convicted of theft and operating a criminal enterprise. The 68-year-old stole the mounds of meat intended to be take-home meals for students learning remotely during pandemic lockdowns. Court records show that Liddell ordered more than 11,000 cases of chicken wings from the school district’s food provider and picked up the order in a cargo van. The food was never brought to the school or given to students. The business manager for the district found the invoices for the chicken wings to be odd, because it is a food item that wouldn’t be served to students because they contain bones.
