I don’t think this is even fair. A study has found that ugly people die younger. University of Texas at Austin researchers found that the least attractive men among us live, on average, nearly a year less than those who are considered better-looking – and for women, the difference is nearly 2 years. The scientists behind the findings said that chances are, this is a result of these…um…not-so-fortunate-in-the-looks-department people spending a lifetime being discriminated against due to their appearance. Research has shown that less attractive people tend to earn less money, and are promoted less.

It is predicted that the reason why night insects, such as moths, are attracted to lights is that they mistake them for the light of the moon, which they used to navigate the Earth before mankind made artificial lights.

John Mulaney confirmed that he married Olivia Munn during his appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” Monday. The 41-year-old “Big Mouth” star opened up for the first time about his private July wedding ceremony to longtime love, saying: “I got married. Thanks a lot. It’s the best.” Mulaney, who shares 2-year-old son Malcolm with Munn, proudly brought his mother-in-law, Kimberly Schmid, whom he calls “Miss Kim,” to the taping, and said to Meyers: “I’ve been in a lot of interesting situations. Marrying into a large Vietnamese family is one of the most fun things I’ve ever done.” People reported last month that the comedian and the “X-Men: Apocalypse” actress tied the knot at a friend’s house in New York.

American billionaire philanthropist Michael Bloomberg has announced that a series of grants worth $600 million will be presented to 5 historically Black colleges and universities. The donations will be channeled specifically to the universities’ medical colleges, and Bloomberg’s philanthropic organization said it hopes they will sprout greater representation in the medical sector, where Black doctors make up just 6% of the national labor force. The $600 donation will go to Howard University College of Medicine, Meharry Medical College, Morehouse School of Medicine, Charles Drew University of Medicine & Science, and Xavier University. The donations will more than double the size of 3 of the medical schools’ endowments, relieving hundreds of thousands in student medical school debt.

It’s like the holy grail of the dairy department: melt-resistant, healthy ice cream. The secret: banana plant waste. The Columbian developers say that their new concoction will not only last longer before turning to a puddle or slowly dripping down your arm on a hot day, it is also creamier than traditional ice cream, and potentially even healthier. Last year, Japanese scientists developed the melt-resistant ice cream using polyphenol compounds from strawberries, but this new compound, developed using fibers from banana plants, has been found to improve the creaminess and texture of low-fat ice cream as well. They believe their discovery could potentially replace fats used on other conventional products too.

ANIMAL MYTHBUSTING: (PART TWO)

Toads give you warts: Let’s just get this one out of the way first. They can’t.

Lemmings engage in mass suicide: They don’t plunge off cliffs en masse into the sea below. The truth is that lemmings sometimes move as a herd to find more food, and when they cross bodies of water, some don’t make it.

Sloths are lazy: Yes, they are excruciatingly slow, but this is due to a very low metabolic rate, which means they need to conserve energy for survival—not because they’re unmotivated.

Elephants are scared of mice: Research has consistently showed that elephants don’t find mice particularly threatening. But like humans, they don’t like it when little things scurry out and take them by surprise.

Turtles don’t feel their shells: The top layer of most turtle shells is made of keratin, like our fingernails. And just as we can experience pain through our fingernails, so do turtles feel pain in their shells.

Birds abandon their babies if you touch them: Birds are better parents than we give them credit for. Feel free to return a fallen baby bird to its nest.

Bulls can’t see red: Surprise! Despite the common belief that the choice of a matador’s cape is actually arbitrary, because cattle are supposedly color-blind, bulls can discriminate some colors and shades, and have been shown to charge more forcefully when the object in question is a warm color.

Armadillos curl up into balls and roll away from predators: Actually, only 2 species of armadillo can roll up into balls at all. And they don’t roll away – it’s simply a way of using their armor to protect themselves.

Each lion pride has a king: Prides actually tend to be led by females, and it’s never a single “queen.” Lionesses form a sort of sisterhood. They have babies around the same time and raise them together.

Horses only sleep standing up: While they are good at grabbing some ZZZs while standing, they lie down when deeper sleep is needed, and will only do so when they are able to relax in a comfortable, safe place.
