Scientists say that chimpanzees communicate with human-like gestures – in regional dialects. A new study published in the journal Current Biology shows how chimps send “rapid fire” gestures back and forth to one another, in the same cadence as people do. The researchers “found that the timing of chimpanzee gesture and human conversational turn-taking is similar and very fast, which suggests that similar evolutionary mechanisms are driving these social, communicative interactions.” The researchers analyzed over 8,500 gestures made by the ape species in East Africa.

Weight-loss drugs are taking a big bite out of the food business. People taking meds such as Ozempic, Rybelsus and Wegovy — originally developed to treat diabetes — spend less on groceries and have healthier choices in their basket, according to a new study on shopping behaviors. Analytics firm Grocery Doppio found that semaglutide-takers purchase 47% fewer baked goods; 28% less soda and sugary beverages; 17% less booze; and 13% less processed foods. On the other hand, they are buying more healthy foods, thanks reduced appetites and changes to their taste buds.

ABC is going to have to dig deep to find a host for the Oscars after Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney have both passed on the gig. Kimmel, who has hosted the past 2 years, made the decision a while ago, prior to his traditional summer hiatus from “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” It has also been reported that Mulaney was waiting for Kimmel to officially pass before making a decision — which turned out to be “No”. The Oscars are set for March 2.

Josh Hartnett says that stalking incidents drove him to leave Hollywood. After surging to fame with “The Virgin Suicides” and “Pearl Harbor” 25 years ago, he took a step back from the spotlight at the height of his career. Hartnett told The Guardian that although he has previously said that he scaled back to focus on his personal life, another factor was “People’s attention to me at the time,” which he called borderline unhealthy.” Hartnett said there were incidents where people showed up at his house and were stalking him, and someone even showed up at a movie premiere with a gun, claiming to be his father. The “Trap” star said: “He ended up in prison.”

A report found that running burns more fat than lifting weights does.

Have you ever been told that you have a “dark” sense of humor? Or maybe you didn’t even have to be told…you just knew. And while I’m sure that those who possess a dark sense of humor are as funny in their own way as anyone, there is a…well…a dark side. A new study published in Behavioral Sciences determined that those with dark humor are more likely to engage in online trolling. And what’s more, they don’t appreciate it when their antagonism turned back on them. In other words, trolls don’t like being trolled. Online trolling is a social behavior characterized by deception and disruption. A troll tries to incite controversy simply to watch people turn against each other. And now, the doozy: The researchers’ findings also indicate that people who possess a dark sense of humor are more likely to demonstrate sadism and Machiavellianism (being cunning, scheming, and unscrupulous).

WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com

There is a bizarre new beverage trending on TikTok that’s called “Fluffy Coke”. And if just the sound of drinking something with the word “fluffy” in its name sounds horrid, I can assure you that it tastes better than it sounds – even if it is being called by some “diabetes in a cup”. Fluffy Coke combines the creaminess of marshmallow with the crispness of an ice-cold fizzy drink. TikTokker Emma Grace claims she and her Grandma came up with Fluffy Coke, and this is how it is made: Using a spatula, slather marshmallow fluff on the interior of a glass, then add ice cubes, and pour in a regular can of Coca-Cola. Grace gives it a 10 out of 10 for taste in her video, which has been viewed more than 3.7 million times. Other TikTokkers tried it themselves, and now there are hundreds of videos on the site with the hashtag #fluffycoke. Some adventurous users have switched up the recipe, swapping in Diet Coke, Pepsi, root beer, Dr. Pepper, flavored sparkling water – and even coffee. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/e4j9h2cs

BEHAVIORS FROM BACK IN THE DAY THAT WOULD SEEM STRANGE TODAY:

A Reddit user asked the “AskOldPeople” community: “What’s one thing normal (from) your time, but is now bizarre to even think about?” And you don’t have to be very old to remember some of the responses…

☞ “Calling the movie theater to see what was playing and what the showtimes were.”

☞ “Anytime you answered a phone, you had no idea who was calling you.”

☞ “Always carrying dimes, later quarters, when on a date, in case things went sideways.”

☞ “Smoking in hospitals and on airplanes.” (I know! Now, you can’t even smoke in church anymore!)

☞ “Arriving at the airport shortly before takeoff, checking your luggage with minimal to no hassle, and boarding your flight.” (…and smoking!)

☞ “Paper maps. You had to figure out your own route…and road trips seemed more of an adventure back then.” (You want to talk about distracted driving? Try following a map while driving through a city!)

☞ “How utterly unsupervised we were as tiny children. I remember taking care of my brother by myself for the full summer while my parents worked starting at 8. He was 4.”

☞ “My parents would leave us 4 kids in the car while they stopped for groceries.”

☞ “The Yellow Pages” (Also: The phone book!)

☞ “The sounds younger people will never know of: listening to your modem connect to the internet.”

☞ “The milkman. Milk, eggs, cheese, and other dairy-adjacent items are delivered to the house weekly. And the milk and OJ were in the glass, returnable bottles.”
