Is there anything it CAN’T do? A new study claims that AI can create jokes at an ““equally funny or funnier than human-produced” level. Researchers at University of Macerata tested the computer-generated comedy of the artificial intelligence program Chat GPT to “shed light on how funny” it is “to the general public.” The language learning model was instructed to write satirical headlines that might appear in the publication “The Onion.” In another test, AI’s ad-libbing abilities were compared to human non-professional comedians. In both, “ChatGPT 3.5-produced jokes were rated as equally funny or funnier than human-produced jokes, regardless of the expertise of the human comedy writer.” Maybe so, but when a newspaper conducted its own test, asking ChatGPT to come up with some jokes, these are the best it could do:

Why don’t scientists trust atoms? Because they literally make up everything!

Why did the scarecrow become a successful neurosurgeon? Because he was outstanding in his field!

Why do biologists look forward to casual Fridays? Because they’re allowed to wear genes to work!

Then, when instructed to tell the “funniest joke” it could offer, ChatGPT responded: Why don’t skeletons fight each other? They don’t have the guts!

Pete Davidson recently checked into a wellness facility for mental health treatment, People reports. The comic had shows in Florida and New Jersey scheduled, but both are now canceled. Davidson underwent treatment last summer to address post-traumatic stress disorder and borderline personality disorder, and last year, he was charged with reckless driving after crashing a car into a Beverly Hills home. He was ordered by the LA Superior Court to complete an 18-month diversion program, which included 50 hours of community service, which he completed.

Deadpool & Wolverine” has crossed the $550 million mark at the global box office. At last check, ticket sales stand at $261 million in North America and $284 million internationally, bringing its worldwide tally to $545 million after just 5 days of release — and that was 2 days ago. After notching a record-breaking start for an R-rated film, Deadpool & Wolverine kept breaking new ground. Domestically, it landed the biggest Tuesday haul ever for an R-rated film, with $25.3 million. A day prior, it posted the highest Monday for an R-rated film with $24.4 million. At this point, the blockbuster is the 4th-biggest domestic release of 2024, behind “Inside Out 2”, “Despicable Me 4”, and “Dune: Part II”.

SCOOP OF THE DAY: Brought to you by BetterCreditCards.com

An artificially intelligent, self-driving delivery vehicle is the latest in robotic technology that’ll soon be hitting streets near you. Vayu Robotics has developed a sky-blue colored, mini Volkswagen van-looking machine – which can drive up to 20mph while hauling 100 pounds of goods. A video demo of the self-driving device shows a store worker stocking it up as it follows her down the aisles — before sending groceries out to a customer’s home, navigating potholes, crosswalks, and other obstacles. Occasionally, a side door opens as Vayu One’s mechanical arm leaves the goods streetside. The bot also “is capable of navigating inside stores, on city streets, and unloading packages on driveways or porches.”

An 11-year-old boy finally got his first ever haircut – and it was a doozy. After years of being asked “why he looks like a girl”, he had 38 inches (97cm) of his hair, which extended to his knees, chopped for charity. Aaron Gill started growing his hair after accompanying his big sister Julianna to oncology wards throughout their childhood. She has an autoimmune disorder called ITP, which causes low platelet levels. Young Aaron decided to donate his locks to The Little Princess Trust. It will be made into wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment. Aaron also raised more than £2,000 ($2,575), which will be split between 2 charities.

A Chinese woman has become became the first person charged for riding a 3-wheeled electric suitcase on a sidewalk in Japan. The growing popularity of rideable suitcases with electric motors designed to get people quickly around airports and train stations has alarmed Japanese authorities following a rise in incidents of foreign visitors using them illegally on public roads. An electric suitcase has a built-in battery and an electric motor and can travel at around 10kph (6mph), and sells there for about $640. Under Japanese law, the suitcases are categorized as “motorized bicycles,” and as such, they need to be registered and equipped with a rear-view mirror and turn signals.
