If you’re, pardon the pun, tired of waking up tired, try waking up to music. Researchers at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia found in a 2020 study that waking to a more melodic alarm improves alertness, while harsh alarm tones cause more grogginess. They point out that while most of us would probably appreciate some extra alertness in the morning, the findings are especially important for emergency workers, or anyone else required to wake up at peak alertness at unusual times.

Scientists
have partially revived disembodied pig brains. In April 2019, a team
at Yale was able to restore partial functionality to the brains of
decapitated pigs for 10 hours or more after the animal's death.
Neuroscientist Nenad Sestan, who participated in the experiment,
explained that the result might allow us to "better understand
how brain cells react to circulatory arrest" and "test
whether some cellular functions can be restored in the brain after
death."

Disney’s “Inside Out 2” has surpassed “Frozen II” to become the highest-grossing animated film in history. After 6 weeks of release, Inside Out 2 has generated a staggering worldwide total of $1.46 billion. Frozen II collected $1.45 billion during its theatrical run in 2019. (Disney’s 2019 “Lion King” remake, which earned a $1.65 billion, is technically computer-generated, but the studio has categorized the movie as live-action.) Globally, Inside Out 2 also has overtaken “Barbie” ($1.446 billion) to become the 13th-biggest movie of all time.
Brendan Fraser has been cast as Dwight D. Eisenhower in a new historical drama called “Pressure”. The movie is about the historic storming of Normandy during World War II, often referred to as D-Day. It will focus on Eisenhower as the Supreme Allied Commander and James Stagg, played by Andrew Scott, as Britain’s Chief Meteorological Officer, planning plan the attack. This project follows a string of successes for Fraser, including his Oscar-winning performance in “The Whale” and his SAG Award-nominated performance in “Killers of the Flower Moon”.
Tom Kenny, who voices ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’, has revealed that the animated character is autistic. Kenny recently spoke at the 2024 Motor City Comic Con, and told fans: “SpongeBob’s kind of on the spectrum, too, as a character.” He elaborated, saying that he was recently at a conference in Texas, when a person “who was obviously on the spectrum” asked him: ‘Is SpongeBob himself autistic?’ Allen said he responded by saying: “Yes…course he is…You know what? That’s his superpower, the same way that’s your superpower.” Kenny has voiced the beloved character since the show debuted in 1999.

Olympic surfers don’t have to worry about those gnarly cardboard beds – because they aren’t in Paris. All athletes participating in surfing events are staying in the French island of Tahiti during the games – almost 10,000 miles from the rest of the action. German surfer Tim Elter shared an inside look at his digs at the Polynesian island. In a TikTok, he showed off his room aboard the cruise ship “Aranui 5”, which is housing all surfers for the next 2 weeks. In addition to having a full-sized — and not cardboard — bed, his room is equipped with a balcony overlooking the water and beautiful scenery that Tahiti offers. When one fan commented: “Athletes in Paris will be shook when they see this”, Tim replied with laughing emojis and wrote: “They will.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yc7aph5d

✓ From 1912-1948, artists participated in the Olympics: Painters, sculptors, architects, writers, and musicians competed for medals in their respective fields.

It
would appear that Gen Z has had it up to here with dating apps, and
these days, they’d rather have a chance encounter in an
unconventional setting as a way of meeting their match. A
DatingAdvice.com survey found that the preferred methods of finding
someone to date among those aged 18-27 include at protests, at
funerals – and in virtual reality. Burned out by fruitless dating
app searches, 20-somethings are also searching for love in the fruit
aisles of supermarkets, or hoping to meet a future partner at a
social gathering, a bookstore, or a local club or class.

Those include phrases such as “the math isn’t mathing”, which Alexa defines as “something is incorrect or unreasonable, something doesn’t add up or make sense.” Other words in the update include: “Lowkey”, “Ick”, “Slaps”, and Rizz”. Add to those the phrases “Lives rent-free in my head”, and “Hot Girl Summer” and you should be able to “Slay” in your next conversation with a teen or 20-something, without causing any “Sus” whatsoever. A survey showed that 83% of Gen Z feel the older generation has trouble understanding them.
