So, are you a “Zoom meeting camera off person” or a “Camera on person”? If you leave your camera on, as nature intended, chances are you plan to stick around at your current position for a while. New research published in the Harvard Business Review found that going ‘camera-on’ correlated with sticking around at your job. In an analysis of looked at 40 million video meetings, they determined that people who left their companies within a year enabled their cameras during meetings 18.4% of the time, compared to 32.5% of the time for employees who stayed at their company longer. The researchers noted that employers that have significant numbers of workers who elect not to activate their cameras during meetings should probably look into staff engagement issues.

Paramount has released the first “Gladiator 2” trailer, offering a look at Ridley Scott’s long-promised sequel to his Best Picture-winning 2000 film. Russell Crowe is out and Paul Mescal is in, playing the grown son of Connie Nielsen’s character from the first film, ‘Lucius’. In an epic journey that mirrors the one Crowe’s ‘Maximus went’ on in “Gladiator,” the sequel finds Mescal crossing paths with those who wronged him in the gladiatorial arena with an A-list ensemble that includes Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington. It’ll be in theaters November 22. LINK: https://youtu.be/4rgYUipGJNo

Some Walmart stores in the Toronto area are experimenting with what they are calling a “sensory-friendly experience” to make shopping trips easier for those with disabilities, who are sensitive to busy environments, or who are just looking for some peace and quiet while they do their thing. Every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at participating stores, the lights are lowered, the music is shut off, and announcements are halted. TVs in the entertainment section display a blue screen, and are, of course, silent. While the idea isn’t new, it is becoming more popular these days, with grocers, toy stores, and even theaters dabbling in the practice. A Walmart spokesperson points out that the program is not only good for those with sensitivities, but also for those who prefer to “spend a bit more time and (not) feel as rushed” as they might during prime shopping hours.

A man who began picking up litter to help his mental health says that now his whole family spends quality time together on the clean-ups – and together with others, they have picked up 13 tons of trash. After struggling with severe depression, 32-year-old Mike Scotland found himself by the bank of the River Don in his hometown of Aberdeen, England, surrounded by litter and ready to take his own life. He managed to change his mind, but whenever Mike would pass the river, the mounds of rubbish would remind him of that dark day – so he decided to start cleaning it up. Soon, another person offered to help, and Mike decided to start a litter-picking group. Over the next few months, Community Clean Up collected almost 30,000 pounds of litter (13,500kg), and pulled a whopping 5,500 pounds of metal (2,500kg) from the river bottom. Mike is now a father of 3 and says the whole family now picks up litter regularly, including his 5-year-old son, Lucio, who picked up his first piece of trash as a toddler. He says that it is “really uplifting to see that there’s a lot of people out there that want to do good.”

A British man has climbed a 3,560ft mountain – with a clothes dryer strapped to his back. Builder Tommy Dunford scaled Yr Wyddfa in Wales, previously known as Snowdon, while carrying the hulking 40kg (88lb.) appliance, to raise money for renovations to his local rugby team’s clubhouse, where he is a coach. To train for the feat, the 33-year-old spent his evenings walking around the hills of his hometown of Horbury, with the tumble dryer strapped to his back. The challenge has, so far, raised over £6,000, which Dunford called “amazing”. He described his climb as “really hard”, and said: “It was a relief that I got to the top.” But at that point, he was only halfway done. He then headed back down again with his heavy load to complete his epic 9.5mile (15.5km) challenge.

CHILDHOOD MEDICAL MYTHBUSTING:

Ginger ale relieves stomach aches: While actual ginger CAN help ease a stomach ache, most commercial ginger ales don’t actually contain the real thing. And carbonated beverages can actually make stomach pain even worse, by increasing gas in the digestive tract.

Gum stays in your stomach for 7 years: Do we have to go here? While swallowing gum is not recommended, if you do so accidentally, you will likely pass it like any other indigestible food (such as my cooking) . . . within 2-5 days.

You shouldn’t swim for 30 minutes after eating: This myth stems from a theory that blood flow will be diverted from the arms and legs to help digest food, potentially leading to an increased risk of drowning. Abdominal cramping is also a historical concern. But a study showed no effect on performance in the water after a meal.

Chicken soup cures a cold: This one has been around since at least the 12th century. The problem? While chicken soup is warm and comforting when you’re sick, it’s not a cure. But drinking any hot broth can help clear your stuffed sinuses.

You’ll ruin your eyes if you sit too close to the TV: While doing this will not damage your eyes, it may cause eye strain. Experts recommend keeping the room well-lit and taking occasional breaks from the screen.
