Women who are inclined toward tall men are more likely to consider themselves attractive, new research has revealed. Researchers at Texas A&M International University recruited 247 straight women for their study, which involved showing them a range of images depicting men of varying heights and “shoulder-to-hip ratios” (SHRs). The women were found to consider taller men with larger SHRs as more attractive, masculine, dominant, and better in fighting ability. No surprise there, as men with larger SHRs are likely to be broad-shouldered and have muscly arms. What the researchers didn’t necessarily expect was that women who rated themselves as attractive were more likely to say that taller men are more desirable.

Scientists
were able to take a picture of an atom's shadow. Whether you're a
professional photographer or not, you'll probably be impressed by the
photo-related feat accomplished by a team at Australia's Griffith
University in 2012. Using an electrical field to suspend a charged
atom in a vacuum chamber, the team shot a laser beam at the atom and
took a photo of the shadow it produced. While atoms have been
photographed before, their shadows have not, making this
accomplishment unprecedented.

Netflix has revealed a first look at the cast and sets of “Stranger Things” season 5. A new behind-the-scenes video returns to some well-known locations of the show, including Castle Byers, Hawkins High School and, of course, some of the most terrifying woods you’ve ever seen. The entire cast is back, and star Millie Bobby Brown reflects on the journey of getting to the end, saying: “I started when I was 10, I’m now turning 20 years old.” The clip also reveals 3 cast additions for the final season: Nell Fisher (“Bookworm”, “Choose Love”), Jake Connelly and Alex Breaux (“Waco: The Aftermath”). The final season is expected to premiere sometime in 2025. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/579refdf
Johnny Depp continues his comeback since his 2022 defamation suit victory against Amber Heard. Next up: playing a gibberish-speaking puffin. And it’s not a return to “Pirates of the Caribbean”. Depp is returning to animation, a format that served him well in films like “Corpse Bride” and “Rango”. In “Johnny Puff: Secret Mission”, he plays a fedora-wearing puffin living in the arctic, who goes to battle with the evil ‘Otto von Walrus’. In a new featurette about the film, Depp says that he invented a language for the character, mixing his dialogue “with the actual sound of a puffin.” The results? A sea parrot in a red bandana saying things like, “Rama-lama-yama.” The feature hits streaming services tomorrow. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yvjv4hke

A study found that marrying an older man reduces a woman’s lifespan, but marrying a younger man reduces it even more.
Summer isn’t all fun and games. I mean, sure, it is for your semi-retired rich uncle who has a home on the water. But even his family sometimes has to deal with sunburns. And because too much sun exposure can be harmful – not to mention cause you a world of hurt, here are some tips from medical pros for alleviating a sunburn:
• Use towels soaked in cold water to cool down your skin.
• Over-the-counter products such as aloe and ointments can also help soothe sunburned skin.
• If it’s still uncomfortable, try a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication like Ibuprofen to help deal with the inflammation.
• If it’s very, severe, you might need a health-care professional who could apply or prescribe a topical corticosteroid for inflammation.
• Also note: It might help, as skin heals, to use a lightweight moisturizer to rehydrate the skin. Avoid thick creams and even heavy clothing, which will trap the heat.

A Kenyan distance-runner will make history at the 2024 Paris Olympics by competing in spray-on sneakers. Two-time medalist Hellen Obiri will be wearing a new type of running shoe from sportswear company On. The “Cloudboom Strike LS” (LightSpray) model’s technology works by placing a foot form on the arm of a robot as the shoe’s entire upper part is sprayed on in just 3 minutes, the company says. The sprayer rotates the shoe, applying a material with the characteristics of both plastic and rubber, which lands as a single string that bonds to the outsole without any glue. It is then sprayed with color, and cures in 3 minutes, and the shoes are ready to run. The material used is so form-fitting that athletes often opt to wear the shoes without socks. The first time Obiri used them in competition – at the Boston Marathon in April – she won. LINK: https://youtu.be/X4k23UClZvE

REAL BABY NAMES THAT PEOPLE TRIED TO TALK THE PARENTS OUT OF:
The BuzzFeed community was asked to share the baby names they tried to talk someone out of. Here are some of the most memorable stories . . .
⇒ “My next-door neighbor…is a maternity nurse. There was a young girl who wanted to name her daughter Latrina. Once she was told what a latrine was, she went in a different direction.”
⇒ “I had a pregnant coworker proudly tell me that she was going to name her daughter Claire. I asked what her middle name would be and she replied, ‘Annette.’”
⇒ “I know a girl whose last name is Cash, and her dad wanted to name her Penny. Luckily for her, mom vetoed it so she wouldn’t get bullied.”
⇒ “My cousin wanted to name her baby girl Rosacea. Yes, like the skin condition. She thought it sounded pretty…We all talked her out of it. My Dad won by telling her, ‘Please don’t jinx your baby with that name.’ Out of fear of accidentally pre-diagnosing her baby with rosacea, she opted for Rosa.”
⇒ “Senna. It’s the brand name of a commonly used over-the-counter laxative. My friend likes the name because it means flower or some kind of flower in his native language, so the name stayed.”
⇒ “Brooklyn or Harper as options for their firstborn boy and girl. (I said) Do you have any ideas that didn’t come from Posh Spice!?”
⇒ “My friend who thought the name Harry was adorable. Their last name was Cox…When the kid turned 18, the first thing he did was legally change his first name…(and) when he got married, he took his wife’s last name.”
