THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!

Dear John,

Okay...listen, I'm normal. I am not nuts. But a friend of mine is making me think twice about some things. I've known this guy since high school. We're now both in our 30s and remain good friends. Recently, he told me something he said he's never told anyone before. He told me he has had "out of this world" experiences. He told me details about being abducted by aliens. He says it's happened 8 times, starting when he was 9. The most recent one was just over a month ago. It always happens at night when he is asleep. He wakes up with weird bruises and punctures, and often is in a place where he's never been, miles from his home. He has no idea how he gets there. He also told me he has always been able to see things in the sky that nobody else can see, and often sees beings that others can't see. He told his parents about it when he was a kid, but they didn't believe him and told him he was imagining it. So he stopped telling them. And he hasn't told anyone else ever until now. He didn't want them to think he was "crazy." I don't know what to think about this. I don't really believe him. But he's a great friend, perfectly rational, and I don't think he's making it up. I want to support him, but if he's imagining all of this, I feel like I should help him get help. And I can't really talk to anyone about him because he doesn't want people knowing about it. He says he trusts me, but swore me to keep it our secret. Thank you for keeping this anonymous! What do I do?

Signed

You’ve heard the old saying about exercise: “no pain, no gain” — but it turns out that might be backward. According to a new study, those who engage in more physical activity end up having a higher tolerance for pain. These findings, from the University Hospital of North Norway, propose that an increasing exercise could be a potential strategy for managing chronic pain. The study author wrote: “Becoming or staying physically active over time can benefit your pain tolerance. No matter what you choose to do, the key is to stay active!”

India has become the most populous country in the world. According to United Nations data, the country now has 1.43 billion people, about 3 million more than China. Last year, the number of people in China shrank for the first time since 1960. In 2016, Beijing ended its strict “one-child policy”, imposed in the 1980s amid overpopulation fears, and it started allowing couples to have 3 children in 2021, amid a looming demographic decline, as birth rates plunge and its workforce ages.

Do you reckon Sasquatches snore? C’mon, you know the answer, deep down. Of course, they do. They snore and eat noisily and pick bugs out of each other’s fur and then eat those bugs, noisily. What else do Sasquatches do, you wonder? One of the wildest movies of the year — or the century, for that matter — suggests they mourn, cuddle, bury their dead, enjoy throwing rocks in rivers, make art and wonder if they’re alone in the world. Even so, “Sasquatch Sunset” from filmmaking brothers David and Nathan Zellner, is a bewildering 90-minute, narrator-less and wordless experiment that’s as audacious as it is infuriating. It’s not clear if everyone was high making it or we should be while watching it. Do you reckon Sasquatches snore? C’mon, you know the answer, deep down. Of course, they do. SCOOP OF THE DAY: Brought to you by BetterCreditCards.com

A woman in Annapolis, Md., won $229,680 from a Fast Play lottery ticket she purchased from a vending machine. "This is real!" she said. The woman has chosen to be anonymous and go by the name "Faithful Grandmother" to describe her winnings at the Maryland Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore. "Faithful Grandmother" picked up lottery tickets on April 22 while waiting for her order of chicken at Maryland chain Royal Farms. She didn't find out she won until she was home. Her daughter, who went with her to collect her jackpot, said, "She called me and said, 'I think I won the progressive jackpot. She was so calm." She went over to her mother's to doublecheck the $10 Casino Royale Slots ticket and saw that she did indeed win. "Faithful Grandmother" isn't sure what she will do with her winnings. "I haven't thought about it. I'm still in shock," she said, "But I'm going to enjoy life. I'm just so happy and grateful." She said she will be helping out her grandchildren.

Sometimes winning a six-figure lottery ticket is about being at the right place at the right time, as a South Carolina man found out earlier this month, collecting $200,000 in a scratch-off game. The Lowcountry man told South Carolina Education Lottery officials he was in line at the Happy Liquor Store, in North Charleston, S.C., when he noticed the person in front of him had played the $5 Double Sided Dollar Extra Play. He said that was the game he always played, and it inspired him to purchase a ticket immediately after he did. He said he was stunned when he started scratching off the results. "It was like an out-of-body experience," he told lottery officials. "It was crazy. I wouldn't have bought it if the customer in front of me hadn't." The big win could potentially be a life-change for the South Carolina player. "I'm using it to start a business," he said of his plans. The $200,000 total is the top prize in the Double Sided Dollar Extra Play game with the odds of winning of 1 in 750,000. The Happy Liquor Store also came out victorious, scoring a $2,000 commission for selling the winning ticket. After both giving away grand jackpots of more than $1 billion recently, Mega Millions and Powerball are both offering more modest totals this weekend. Mega Millions Friday drawing stands at $228 million with a cash prize of $103.4 million cash payout. Powerball's drawing is Saturday with a jackpot of $149 million and a cash payout of $68.8 million. https://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2024/04/26/lottery-scratch-off

Bozo criminal for today comes from the International File in the Kemerovo region of Russia. It seems our lovesick bozo had a fight with his wife and to make up to her, he decided to play the role of “Prince Charming” and rode his horse over to their apartment. He then walked the horse through the lobby where the big fella left a smelly reminder of his presence. And after he couldn’t get the horse into the elevator, he rode him up five flights of stairs to the fifth floor. Instead of being impressed, the wife called the cops, who are still trying to decide what to charge Charming with. The good news, the horse was removed from the building without incident and is now happily back at the farm.
