Coffee experts and journalists are saying that your mug could have a big impact on the flavor of your coffee. Jordan Michelman and Zachary Carlsen, authors of “But First, Coffee,” explain that while the mug you drink out of doesn’t have a major impact on taste, there is still a subtle change in perception. They even say that a collection of personalized coffee mugs is similar to a sommelier who keeps an assortment of glasses for different wines. The coffee connoisseurs write that “the flavor receptors in our tongue are fallible and easily influenced by forces beyond proof of taste”, and things like music and even the company you’re with can make wine – and coffee – seem to taste better. They wrote: “This means that when it comes time to pick a mug, the vessel you drink from matters a great deal.” The authors believe that using a certain mug can induce feelings of nostalgia, and make you feel happy as you have your first beverage of the day.

Paramount has announced a release date for its remake of “The Naked Gun” starring Liam Neeson. Set for July, 2025, the still untitled “Naked Gun” re-do sees Akiva Schaffer direct and executive produce. It’s unknown how closely this new iteration will follow the original. The “Naked Gun” franchise, which spawned 3 films between 1988-94, followed ‘Frank Drebin’ (played by Leslie Nielsen) and was a send-up of popular crime dramas.
Hollywood hunk Glen Powell made a surprise appearance on “Saturday Night Live” to put any dating rumors between him and his “Anyone But You” co-star Sydney Sweeney to rest. Sweeney, who was hosting the show, announced that she wanted to address “some stuff I’ve seen about me online.” Referring to the stories of an on set romance with Powell, Sweeney said: “That’s obviously not true. Me and my fiancé produced the movie together and he was there the entire shoot.” She then announced that fiance Jonathan Davino “even came here tonight to support me. Can we cut to him?” But the camera cut to Powell, prompting an outburst of laughter and applause from the crowd. Sweeney responded: “Yeah, no, that’s not my fiancé. He’s in my dressing room!”
“Dune: Part Two” rode those massive sandworms all the way to the top of box office charts. Director Denis Villeneuve‘s big-budget sequel collected a projected $81.5 million in its domestic debut and delivered a mighty, needed jolt for struggling movie theaters. It’s the biggest opening weekend of the year and the largest since last October’s Taylor Swift concert film “The Eras Tour”, which collected $93 million in its debut. That’s well above the $41 million opening weekend of the first “Dune,” which debuted in October 2021 amidst COVID-19 concerns.

The Hyodol just might be the strangest and creepiest product to debut at the MWC trade show in Barcelona this year. It looks like a Cabbage Patch doll, but is designed as a kind of surrogate grandchild and minder for elderly folks. Powered by ChatGPT, the doll has touch-sensitive patches and buttons you can press to elicit responses. It can prompt seniors to take their medication, remind them of meal times, and suggest exercise routines, but it speaks in a child’s voice (and sounds very patronizing). The South Korean company behind the Hyodol says it can speak in several languages, and an app allows someone to set up schedules and review how the doll owner is getting on. List price: $1,800.

The new Wilson Airless Gen1 basketball are now available. You heard that right: Airless. The first commercial version of Wilson’s “Basketball that Doesn’t Need To Be Inflated Because It’s Already Full of Holes” will cost US $2,500. Yup. $2,500. There is no inflated bladder inside to help the ball bounce; instead, its shape and materials allow it to bounce like any other ball, minus the air. Wilson worked on the Airless prototype for years before showing it off at the 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend. Price notwithstanding, the ball, which features a latticed pattern of hundred of hexagonal holes, is expected to sell out almost immediately. LINK: https://youtu.be/IVuXLmu0fHk
