So…where is your family celebrating the holidays this year? If the fun is going to be happening at your place, you just might end up with a few more grey hairs. Three in 4 people who are hosting guests this year say they are already stressed about it, according to a new survey. The poll of 2,000 US adults found that while most enjoy entertaining guests at their home, there are still many stressors involved. The top one: Making sure everyone enjoys themselves, cited by 32%. That was followed, in order, by what food to serve (30%) and cleaning up in time for their guests’ arrival (28%). Other stress triggers included the feeling that they don’t have enough seating (18%), space (18%) and food (14%) for guests. And 32% said they just never feel prepared to have people over. Top rules for guests, according to hosts: “Take off your shoes”, “If you make a mess, clean it up”, and most importantly, “Make yourself at home and have fun”.

Cats have 276 facial expressions, according to a new study. Researchers filmed 53 cats at a cat cafĂ© and then went through hours of footage to discern different expressions (breathing, yawning and other default cat behaviors weren’t included). They concluded that while they are unable to determine what all of those different faces and ear twitches mean, they believe that when cats are feeling friendly, their ears and whiskers move forward while their eyes close. And an aggressive cat has constricted pupils, ears flattened against the head and a tongue-swipe of the lip.

Omid Scobie, the author behind the 2020 Prince Harry and Meghan Markle biography “Finding Freedom,” is set to release “Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival”, and its blurb describes the book as “explosive” and “a penetrating investigation into the current state of the British monarchy.” The Mail on Sunday quoted a publishing source as saying: “The word is this is going to have bombshell after bombshell.” Endgame will be released on Nov. 28.

What’s Dr. Phil up to these days? Following the end of his daytime syndicated talk show, McGraw is launching Merit Street Media, a new news and entertainment cable TV network. It will be anchored by “Dr. Phil Primetime”, which will premiere Feb. 26, airing nightly at 8pm ET. No details yet on the new network’s distribution, but it is expected to have nationwide carriage. Merit Street will be based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where a new state-of-the-art broadcast center, spanning over 5 acres, is completing construction.

Andy Cohen is asking CNN to allow him and others to drink during its New Year’s Eve Broadcast. A year after the network decided to reduce alcohol consumption during the annual broadcast, E! News asked the co-host of the festivities about his game plan for sneaking in alcohol this year. His answer: “Hopefully, I will not be sneaking it. I haven’t heard anything yet, but come on, they need to let us drink. It’s New Year’s Eve.” Cohen also said that viewers were unhappy about the mandate last year, and he hopes that CNN “gives the people what they want.” Advocating for himself and his co-host Anderson Cooper, he quipped, “Give the daddies some juice.”

The province of Ontario will soon make it mandatory for employers to disclose wages on job postings. This could include information on an hourly rate or a “salary range”. The new rule is part of legislation aimed at increasing transparency for job seekers, and is expected to be table for approval next week. The concern is that when worker salaries are kept secret, the business doing the hiring has an advantage over the person applying for the job, said Labour Minister David Piccini. He also pointed out the frustration that many have felt after going through the process of applying and interviewing for a job, only to find out that it pays nowhere near the salary they were expecting. The province of British Columbia announced a similar move earlier this year.

WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com

I’m relieved to tell you that 4 men have been charged over the theft of an 18-carat gold toilet from Blenheim Palace, the English mansion where Winston Churchill was born. The toilet, valued at 4.8 million pounds (US $6million), was the work of Italian conceptual artist Maurizio Cattelan. It was part of an art installation at Blenheim Palace, near the city of Oxford, a few days before it vanished overnight in September 2019. The golden toilet, titled “America,” was intended to be a satire about excessive wealth. The lavatory was fully functioning, and prior to the theft, visitors to the exhibition could book a 3-minute appointment to use it. The suspects will appear in court Nov. 28.
