Researchers from the University of Basel in Switzerland say regular caffeine consumption does not disrupt sleep quality, but it can alter the structure of the brain connected to memory. Whether it’s coffee, cola, or energy drinks, study authors also say that caffeine is the world’s most consumed psychoactive substance. (https://bit.ly/3aw2xNV)

A
former Florida lawyer who made headlines when his pants caught on
fire during an arson trial in 2017 was recently charged with cocaine
possession. 32-year-old Stephen Gutierrez was arrested on Monday
night after being pulled over for driving with a broken headlight.
During the traffic stop, a Miami-Dade police officer noticed a bulge
in Gutierrez’s pocket, which he thought was a knife. It turned out
to be a cylinder container with a bag of white powder inside. As the
cop inspected the substance, Gutierrez blurted out, “That’s
cocaine,” the report alleged. Gutierrez’s arrest came after his
license to practice law was revoked in October, Florida Bar records
show. The ex-attorney gained nationwide notoriety four years ago when
he represented a man accused of torching his own car for the
insurance money. During the March 2017 trial, Gutierrez was arguing
that the blaze may have been caused by spontaneous combustion —
when his own pants erupted in flames. (https://bit.ly/3k1EMAn)

WEIRD NEWS: Brought to you by WeirdGiftOfTheDay.com
Emirati
police have arrested a man for allegedly stealing a highly valuable
newborn camel to give to his girlfriend for her birthday. The owners
of the baby camel reported the theft from their farm earlier this
month, prompting Dubai police to fruitlessly search the area. Several
days later, an Emirati man called authorities to say a stray camel
had wandered onto his farm some 3 kilometers (almost 2 miles) away.
According to police in Dubai, when interrogated, the man’s story
fell apart. He soon admitted to trespassing on his neighbor’s farm
to steal a rare breed of camel for his girlfriend, settling for the
newborn after failing to wrangle an adult. The man reported the stray
beast when he grew worried about being caught. The police returned
the camel to its owners and arrested the suspect and his girlfriend
on charges of theft and making a false
statement.(https://bit.ly/37ptBwv)

If
you encounter a particularly rough patch of ice or snow while
shoveling this winter, don’t reach for a can of gasoline like a
Midland Park man did. Police and firefighters responded to the man’s
home where he had set a small fire to try to melt the snow and ice.
Once the fire department arrived, they called in the Bergen County
Hazmat Unit, who used the Speedy Dry to sop up the gas. The man, whom
police would not name, had poured about a half-gallon of gasoline on
a gravelly 2-foot by 2-foot square section of his backyard. “He
thought a good idea would be to dump some gasoline on and light it on
fire,” police Lt. John Gibbons told NJ Advance Media. A neighbor
called the police after smelling something burning around 7:35 p.m.
“I don’t recall ever being dispatched to something like that,”
Gibbons said. “It’s not very common, let’s put it that way.”
